HS XC Runners: Fast Times at Craftsbury

First time we sat down all day!

First time we sat down all day!

Coaches Maria Stuber, Lisa Schlenker and I hosted a one day high school cross country pre-season camp for local VT teens. This being our inaugural go at this camp, we had no idea how many to expect. Runners started collecting in front of the farmhouse office at 8:30 am. Our eyes bugged out when a full sized yellow school bus pulled up in front of the office. Bounding off the bus was a large contingent from St. Johnsbury Academy along with their coach, Chip Langmaid. They joined the group and all of a sudden, we had well more than a quorum! The schedule was full, the sun was shining and who wouldn't want to run fast when grassy fields were inviting runners to shed their shoes and run with abandon? Threshold and tempo intervals, hills and fartlek, circuit training and classroom presentations:  we did it all. Dock jumping into Big Hosmer was de rigueur as the day wore on!Next July we'll be holding a multi-day cross country running camp just for VT high school students. Keep an eye on the website!
