Summer Mountain Bike Program

The summer of 2016 marks the launch of our new mountain bike program here at the Outdoor Center! We're excited to offer kids the opportunity to learn new skills, explore our singletrack trails, and have a blast getting outside and riding.

Mountain Bike Program Overview

All mountain bike program participants are required to have an annual membership at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Memberships run until November, so if you purchased a membership to participate in one of our winter ski programs, you should be all set. Our mountain bike program is led by coaches Ollie Burruss and Sheldon Miller, with help from our ski coaching staff and Green Racing Project athletes. We anticipate a broad range of ability levels, from those with little or no mountain bike experience to those who are more advanced. The program is for kids ages 8-18 and will meet on Monday afternoons during the summer (June 13 - August 29) from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. The program fee is $100. Additionally, the program will include access to a rotating series of activities on Thursdays from 5:00pm - 6:30pm. Among those activities will be "dig days," or trailwork time, group rides, and short races.

Equipment

All participants need to have the following: running/athletic shoes, active outdoor clothing, a waterbottle, a bike helmet, and a safe and functional mountain bike. Don't have a bike or helmet? We will be offer low-priced bike rentals to those participating in the bike program. Participants can either rent a bike for the duration of the program ($50) or per session ($5). All bike rentals include helmets. Please note that renting a bike for the full program does not guarantee use of the same bike every time, nor does it allow participants to take bikes home or use them during non-practice times. Our online bike rental system will be up and running shortly--please check back soon.

Registration

Registration will open on June 2nd at 9am at Bikereg. Due to equipment and staffing constraints, we have to limit registration to 30 people. Scholarships will also be available to those in need. Scholarship application information will be posted here when registration opens.
