Black River Beatdown

October 8, 2016:  10k Run or 10/20mile bike

Update:  6 Oct 16 - Course Changes and Enduro segments!

Given low pre-reg, we're shortening the course. Yeah, we're not super stoked on this either, but at current numbers, we'd need almost as many volunteers as racers to have a good number of course marshalls. So we're cutting out Hosmer Point and the road transfer to get there. Updated course.

Not down with that change? That's fair. If you want to bail following this unfortunate turn of events, no worries, just drop us a line and you'll get a refund of your entry. Reach us a

Still with us? Cool. We're going to be doing timed enduro segments via Strava for prizes from the fine folks at the Jay Cloud, your stop for all things bike over the hill in Montgomery Center. To compete for these prizes, you'll need a Strava account and a gps file from your race uploaded (via our wifi if you wish) to Strava before the awards' ceremony. Day's fastest time in men's, women's categories win a $25 gift certificate!

All for now! - the folks from Craftsbury

The Black River Beatdown Trail Race is back for 2016, now with more singletrack!

CYCLISTS - Register at
If you liked the course from this summer's EFTA race, you'll love what we've got prepared for you this fall. We've included two new sections of singletrack on the core Craftsbury Outdoor Center trails. The mountain bike course also heads north up the road to the trails at Hosmer Point, our summer camp neighbor. Hosmer Point has a mix of machine- and hand-built trails that snake along the shores of Great Hosmer lake.

RUNNERS - Register over at!
For our trail runners, we've put together a tough just-under-10k. You'll start by tearing through the cedar swamps south of the Center before dropping down to the Black River and climbing right back up. With a mix of singletrack and ski trail climbs and primarily singletrack descents, this technical course will test your mettle and provide loads of fun.

Getting Here

While Internet or GPS based mapping systems do a great job to direct one to the Craftsbury area, phones don't work here, and GPS has a nasty habit of putting you on jeep trail. We recommend using our detailed directions for navigation within 5 miles of Craftsbury (from Hardwick North or Irasburg South).
