Craftsbury Wins Three National Championships

Fresh off of U23/Senior Trials I, the Green Racing Project and Small Boat Training Center jumped back into action at USRowing’s Elite National Championship at Lake Mercer in New Jersey.

Racing in six finals, Craftsbury claimed three national championships in the men’s single, men’s lightweight single and men’s quad.

The men’s single final was stacked with Craftsbury athletes, but the real story of the race was the sprint between brothers Peter Graves (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Tom Graves (Cincinnati, Ohio. Peter edged Tom at the line by less than a second in a come-from-behind sprint with a time of 7:02.0. Also in the mix were Erik Frid (Madbury, NH), who got bronze and Ben Davison (Iverness, FL) who finished fourth.

With this year’s win, Hugh McAdam (Grantham, NH) earned his ...

GRP and SBTC Compete at U23/Senior Trials I

At the beginning of last week the Green Racing Project and Small Boat Training Center competed for the opportunity to represent the United States at the Senior and U23 World Rowing Championships this summer.

These trials contested seven Senior Team and 15 U23 Team events. Phil Henson (Somerset, NJ) and Hugh McAdam (Grantham, NH) represented the Green Racing Project at the senior level, vying for the lightweight men’s eight and lightweight men’s quad, respectively. The SBTC was entered in 6 events: the men’s single, lightweight men’s single, women’s single, lightweight women’s single, women’s double, and men’s double.

Both Henson and McAdam raced their trials uncontested, going down the course with no other boats on the day of the finals. With their trials wins, Henson ...

Singletrack: CLOSED

We capped a busy week, culminating in the main event this past Sunday:  the VT Ski and Snowboard Museum EFTA Race (results here). Thanks to volunteer help from the Craftsbury Juniors, parents, and others we built something on the order of 7 new bridges, 5 new culverts, re-routed 2 sections of trail and armored 4 damp sections with rock slabs.

All these steps definitely helped, but continued rain on Sunday and the race traffic still took their toll. Regrettably, we're closing the singletrack until mid-week at the earliest, more likely the end of the week. Closed means no runners, no bikes. Our trail crew is picking up tools and launching into repair mode, raking, tamping and smoothing any ruts that resulted from yesterday, draining as necessary, and so forth. Once smoothed out (and ...

Tuesday Night Trail Series - 6/29 update

Given all the rain we've received in the last week (monsoon June, anyone?), we're unfortunately forced to cancel the bike portion of this week's Tuesday Night Trail Series. Runners will be racing a modified course that follows our 5k Race Loop set of ski trails. The new course will be signed and will not include any singletrack.

Thanks for being patient while we let our singletrack trails dry out. One of these days we'll get proper summer weather, so keep your fingers crossed!

We've spent a lot of time draining and armoring the trail after all the bountiful rain, and are continuing the process today. Hopefully we don't have to test the new improvements, but if not, the additional bridges and armored rock gardens should cut down on the slop factor if it rains. Head over to Bikereg and sign up NOW!
