Biathlon News Jan. 23-25

This past weekend marked a historical first for the Green Racing Project. US Biathlon veterans Susan Dunklee and Hannah Dreissigacker were joined by World Cup rookie Clare Egan at World Cup 6 in Antholz, Italy- the first time that three GRP biathletes competed at a World Cup event. It also was a season-best weekend for Susan Dunklee, who notched two top-10 finishes.

In Friday's sprint race, Susan led team USA with an exciting 8th place finish, shooting 90% with a single miss in standing. Hannah Dreissigacker kept spectators on the edge of their seats with only one prone miss but two in standing, leaving the range in 61st place, just one second outside of qualifying for the following day's pursuit. She fought hard on her final lap and crossed the line in 52nd, and then with ... go arrow

GRP Ski Weekend Update

Green Racing Project skiers were busy last weekend competing at home and abroad. GRP skier Ida Sargent continued her World Cup season in Rybinsk, Russia, where organizers held a 3 day mini-tour. Meanwhile, several of the domestic GRP skiers raced a little closer to home at the UVM Carnival in Stowe, VT.

Although temperatures were frigid for the World Cup mini-tour in Rybinsk, it didn’t stop the US team from having one of their strongest weekends of the season. Ida didn’t race the 10k skate, but her teammate and fellow Vermonter Liz Stephen took 2nd place, which is the highest placing ever for a US female cross country skier in distance. The next day in the freestyle sprint, Ida qualified in speedy fashion, taking the 5th spot. In the rounds she just missed making the ... go arrow

Indoor Biathlon Challenge coming to Craftsbury

Thanks to our new biathlon coach Miroslav Segrt, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center is offering an indoor biathlon challenge to members and guests until the 1st of April. The premise is simple, do 500m on the SkiErg, shoot five prone targets with the laser rifle provided, do another 500m on the SkiErg, shoot five more targets standing with the laser rifle and finish it off with another 500m on the SkiErg. The targets for each position must be shot within one minute, if it takes longer than that the athlete can continue to the SkiErg with no additional penalty. Craftsbury staff will be on hand Mondays from 7PM-9PM to validate scores (you can practice on your own but for a score to count it must be witnessed and validated by a member of the Craftsbury staff). While we'll be doing this every ... go arrow

Sargent bounces back with double World Cup sprints in Otepää, Estonia

The World Cup circuit ventured to Eastern Europe for the first time this 2014-2105 season for a double sprint weekend in Otepää, Estonia. As a standout sprinter, GRP skier Ida Sargent was slated to race both the individual classic sprint on Saturday and the freestyle team sprint, an event where two skiers alternate skiing 3 laps of the sprint course, on Sunday.

Saturday’s classic sprint was only the second classic sprint of season. In the first sprint in Kuusamo, Ida had her best ever World Cup finish, taking 5th, so hopes were high for another top finish. Unfortunately, an unlucky fall in the qualifier took Ida out of contention and she missed qualifying for the top 30 by 6 seconds. Sadie Bjornsen was the lone US qualifier on the women’s side, and ended up 15th after ... go arrow

GRP Biathlon Wrapup, MLK 15

Another big biathlon weekend for the Green Racing Project! At World Cup 5 in Rupholding, Germany, Susan Dunklee once again led the US women in the 7.5k sprint, placing 26th with a single miss. "While the end result today doesn't look particularly special, I think it was one of my best performances of the season so far." said Dunklee. Hannah Dreissigacker also competed in the sprint and finished 77th with three misses. On Sunday, Susan was the lone American woman in the mass start. On her way into the range for the final shooting stage she was in third place in lead pack including the eventual race winner, Darya Domracheva (BLR). Susan had two misses in the last stage and fell back from the leaders, but held onto 16th place with a total of three misses, citing it as another top ... go arrow
