02.Feb.2010 Bolton Pursuit A small core of the CNSC team raced two weekends ago at the NWVT's pursuit race at Bolton. A true pursuit on a fun 1k lap course that was 50/50 descent and uphill. Some great exchanges were required of the kids to go from classic to skate. After the racing, the kids could try triple skis or play crack the whip behind some of the fast juniors too.
Despite the smaller CNSC turnout, the team was well represented as Melanie Sergiev won the 2k/2k J3 girls' event, Marika Massey-Bierman led the way with a victory over teammate Anica Koontz Miller in the 1k/1k J4 girls' class, and Quincy Massey-Bierman finished 3rd in the 1k/1k J5 girls' class.
Awards were followed by a great pool party at Bolton Valley. Some amazing belly-flops were performed, showing that they're not just good skiers.
Memphremagog Paintball Biathlon A more robust group headed north on Sunday (23rd) for a paintball biathlon in Newport put on by the Memphremagog Ski Touring Foundation. Two courses were contested. On the long course, Craftsbury members results:
Marika Massey-Bierman, 1st J4 girl Olivia Teatel, 2nd J4 girl Grace Willean, 3rd J4 girl Anna Strong, 4th J4 girl
Kestrel Owens, 1st J4 boy. Kestrel also scored the most precious of wins for a kid - beating his principal Chris Young by 2 seconds over the course!
Masters Long course: Peter Harris, 4th overall Paul Bierman, 9th overall Jim Raas, 20th overall
Short Course: Melanie Sergiev, 1st J3 girl Quincy Massey-Bierman, 4th overall, 1st J6
Jacob Morse, 1st J4 boy Patrick Lawlor, 1st J3 boy Max Wingensiefen, 2nd J4 boy Kai Wingensiefen, 1st J5 boy Xavier Koontz Miller, 2nd J3 boy
Masters Short Course: Christine Massey, 5th overall. Marathon weekend Xavier and Anica Koontz Miller competed in the Onion River Sports Dash for Cash on Friday night under the lights. Lots of fun to be had racing with the big people.
Melanie and Xavier both contested the 25k marathon, and were happy to join teammates Alex, Nicolai and Christian Ostberg as well. Alex, Nicolai and Xavier finished 3-4-5 in the J3 25k, while Melanie was best in class for the J3 girls, and Christian second for J4 boys.
The majority of the rest of their team were staffing the feed station on the upper soccer field. It has been rumored that a deal was made with their GRP coaches: volunteering BKL team = a week of games for practice! Whoa! Don't know when that bet will come due, but that's a good trade.
Way to go kids!
