Craftsbury Races to the Top
Last Updated: 28.Aug.2012
The Green Racing Project skiers and rowers headed to Stowe this past Sunday for the 2012 North Face Race To The Top Of VT. It was a productive trip as both men's and women's podiums were covered in green.
Caitlin Patterson led the GRP women, finishing second behind 2011 World Mountain Running Champion Kasie Enman. Patterson topped 3rd placed teammate Ida Sargent by a bit over a minute. The green rush continued with Clare Egan in 5th, Hannah Dreissigacker in 9th, and Emily Dreissigacker in 49th.
The men were led by Gordon Vermeer, mirroring Caitlin's second place. His running form has been really strong all summer, as evidenced during time trials and smaller events like the Black River Beatdown. Vermeer capitalized on that hot streak to post a 35:33.3 to the top of Vermont. Teammate Nils Koons completed the podium for the GRP with his third place. Hot on Nils' heels was Caitlin's brother, Scott Patterson of UVM's nordic team.
Tim Reynolds was the fourth men's GRP skier in the top 10 of the race, with his 39:01, only four seconds ahead of Patrick O'Brien. Bryan Cook came in about a minute later for 16th. Teammate Alex Howe was 24th, with GRP rower John Graves cresting the mountain in 42:54.
It wasn't just Craftsbury's sponsored athletes that challenged the 4.3 mile course. A variety of staff and Craftsbury locals took on the nearly half mile of vertical elevation gain as well. Judy Geer and Gina Campoli ended 57th and 79th in the women's running race. Marc Gilbertson led male runners with a 14th place, with Peter Harris and Pavel Cenkl both making the top 100 as well, with a 48th and 93rd. Scott Inglis from the Center's dining hall summitted as well, for 204th on the day.
On the cycling side of the event, Matt Moody, the Center's Tuesday night trail series leader was 6th across the line, with Greensboro Bend's Buddy Majernik topping out around 3 minutes later for 13th place.
Congratulations to one and all!
