Craftsbury International
03.Feb.2010 As was mentioned last week amidst all the marathon hullabaloo, we had some athletes competing internationally. Ida Sargent of the GRP was at U23 Worlds in Germany and Ethan Dreissigacker was competing at IBU Youth Worlds in Sweden.
U23s - Ida's best result came at the beginning of the week with a 4th place on Tuesday in the 1.3k FS sprint. Thursday's 10k classic event was marked with fresh snow adding to the challenge. Ida was 34th overall in 32:39.3. The week closed on Saturday with a 7.5k/7.5k pursuit, where she again finished 34th.
Youth Biathlon Worlds - Ethan competed over the past week plus at Torsby, Sweden. Some tough travel to get there presaged what was to come as Ethan picked up a bug during the event and endedup missing the closing relay. Being sick is always a disappointment, but what a drag to have it happen at the world championships.
Regardless, the competition opened on Wednesday the 27th with a 12.5k individual and Ethan led the Americans home with a 43rd. Saturday was the 7.5k sprint where Ethan was 45th. The next day's 10k pursuit saw Ethan cross the line in 36th. Unfortunately as was mentioned earlier, Ethan was sick and missed out on yesterday's relay, but his teammates brought home 19th on the day.
One highlight not directly related to the competition was a visit to the ski tunnel - a 2.5k tunnel that allows for skiing year round! Pretty cool.
Congratulations to both Ida and Ethan on your accomplishments so far this winter - and those yet to come! U23 full results index Youth biathlon full results index (scroll down)
