CTA Backcountry Tour on the 25th
17.Feb.2010 While we are better known for our groomed skiing, the Catamount Trail actually passes through the Center. Join us in a tour next Thursday from the Center to Lowell and experience this lesser known side of Craftsbury.
The event is part of week long tour organized by the Catamount Trail Association (CTA) from Edson Hill Manor to the Canadian border. However, for those who can't escape work for seven days, you needn't do the entire week's worth of touring to participate in this day's adventure. This is a long tour of 13.3 miles that starts on our ski center trails but is mainly on backcountry and snowmobile trails. The route crosses the Lowell Mountains and travels through many open farm fields, utilizing the historic Bayley-Hazen Rd. for much of the way, providing many wonderful views. Guided by John Brodhead. The ski tour is planned to start at 9:30am from the Center headed for Lowell. There will be an 8:30 van shuttle from Lowell to the Center for those that want to drop cars at that end of the tour. For more information about the day of skiing (and to register for the tour as well as the shuttle), contact Tour Coordinator Jan Rozendaal or call 802-862-2735.
Additionally, there's a wealth of information about the entire Catamount Trail at their website, including information about suggested gear, fitness and appropriate skillsets.
