Craftsbury at Canadian Henley 2010

05.Aug.2010

Big week up in St. Catherines Ontario - it's Canadian Henley time, and Craftsbury is well represented. SBTC members and multiple time intern Jean Sack are on the scene racing all week.

Racing has already commenced in most events. John Hood has earned a spot in the final of the competitive senior men's single event, and will contest the semi-finals of the U23 single today.

Tom Graves bowed out in his senior men's single semi, but he and brother Peter posted the time to beat in their opening Senior Men's 2x Heat yesterday afternoon, and advance to the Semis later today.

Men's pair Elliott Skopin and Terrence Word of Wesleyan opened their campaign in the Senior Men's Pair by advancing to Semis, but their run ended there. They'll take up the pursuit of the U23 2- later today. Elliott and Terrence are also entered as part of a composite U23 4- that begins competition tomorrow.

Intern Jean Sack, sculling for Humboldt Bay Rowing Association, advanced to the Semis of the Junior Women's 1x with a second place in the heat, but met with much greater resistance at that point. After a couple days off, she'll resume her racing in the Women's U23 1x on Friday.

SBTC athlete Nicholas Trojan has not gotten on the water yet, as the Champ Men's 1x doesn't begin competition until Friday. Trojan was part of the US LW Men's U23 2x entry that competed at U23 Worlds in Brest, Belarus several weeks ago.

Likewise, some other SBTC athletes won't hit the water until Sunday in a Champ 8+ entry (kind of stretching the definition of "small boats", but good fun nonetheless). That entry has three Graves' brothers on its roster and many other current or former SBTC athletes:  Peter Graves Stroke, John Graves 7, Hank Moore 6, Code Sternal 5, Alexander Burjako 4, Ben Johnson 3, John Hood 2, Tom Graves Bow, with Katie Apfelbaum coxing.

Lots to follow this week. There's coverage over at row2k, and the best option of following at the official site I find to be here. Consult the Craftsbury entry guide below for event numbers, and then tune early this afternoon to follow the rowers. Skopin/Word start things off at 12:18, followed by Hood at 12:40 (before his date in the Sr. final at 3:58), and the Graves brothers' double at 2:30.

Best of luck rowers!
