Race report: NSRIII, Day 119.Aug.2010 The SBTC sent three boats to National Selection Regatta III at Mercer Lake, NJ this week. The regatta will be used to select athletes for a camp which will then determine the quad crews for World Championships in New Zealand. Three doubles are rowing for the SBTC: Tom and Peter Graves, Emily Dreissigacker and Shay Seager, and Elizabeth and Rebecca Donald. Racing got under way this morning with a time trial for the doubles. In the men's category, Tom and Pete finished 2nd, just two seconds back from the US Rowing entry of Elliot Hovey and Wes Piermarini. Brian Deregt and Jon Winter, who trained at Craftsbury this winter, finished 9th. In the women's time trial, Emily and Shay finished tenth and the Donald sisters eleventh, both well off the pace set by US Rowing's Megan Kalmoe and Margot Shumway. Anne Holmes, who coaches at Craftsbury's summer sculling camps, finished 5th in a boat with Morgan Wimberley. No matter, though. All crews advanced to heats this evening. For the men, there were three heats which would determine placing into the semifinals. Rowing in the second heat, Tom and Pete raced to an easy four-second victory, ensuring good seeding for the semis. In the third heat, Deregt and Winter placed third, also snagging a spot in the semis. For the women, a smaller number of entried meant that the evening's races were the semifinals themselves. Both Craftsbury entries were in the second heat, where Shay and Emily finished 4th and Liz and Rebecca 5th out of 6 boats. Both crews are headed to the B Final tomorrow. Holmes and her partner will be racing the A Final after finishing 3rd in their heat. Links: Results from Powerhouse Timing
