Racing wrapup20.Mar.2008 The season is pretty well wrapped up around New England. This past weekend saw the capping of many junior's seasons as the Junior Olympics finished with the team relay and closer to home, the TD BankNorth Eastern High School Championships at Trapps. The Junior Olympics took a turn for the absurd as a missing bag of race skis put something of a damper on the preparations for CNSC and New England in advance of Friday's Classic Mass start event. CNSC's Kristin Halvorsen placed a strong 4th - only 10.7s out of gold in the FJ2 5k. Tara Geraghty-Moats had a top 20 in the same race, as did Jake Barton in the MJ1 15k. With one last shot at redemption and catching the Alaskan team heading into the final race, New England's FJ2 girls did their part, winning gold behind the team of Isabel Caldwell, Heidi Caldwell and CNSC's Geraghty-Moats. The rest of the New England team didn't fare as well, but an all CNSC squad of Ethan, Alex and Jake did capture 12th of 30 in the MJ1 race. It wasn't enough for the team competition though as Alaska won its eponymously named trophy, the Alaska Cup for 2008. CNSC had several skiers at Trapp's for the Eastern High School Championships this past week as well: Mike Gibson, Dan Brodhead, Kyle Prohaska, Matt Piper, Alex McAndrew, Holly Bushman and Lia Van Dyke flew the colors for CNSC. Mike had two podiums classic sprint and 5k FS and Lia won the girls' 5k FS to lead the team. In this competition as well, the good guys ended up 2nd - in this case with Maine taking the HS championship. A lot of nice results for a great season's worth of work. Results: |
