Hard at (Trail)work

18.Nov.2010

We have all enjoyed the trail work that has been done all summer, but Eric and his team are still at it, putting the finishing touches on the trails this fall, grading, smoothing, making small re-routes and improving drainage where needed. The trails look phenomenal - even with some new cairns along the side as Keith pursues excavator art!

One of the bigger projects we have undertaken is rehab of the Center to Highland Lodge Connector Trail. The work is pretty well finished and it looks great. We have made some of the toughest sections safer by widening, smoothing and banking turns, resulting in a much more skiable trail for a broader range of skiers. We also worked at improving drainage and mitigating erosion with new ditches, bridges and culverts. This has the added benefit of enabling better snow-farming, meaning that the trail should be usable for more days this winter.

As always, it's been great to work with the wonderful and supportive landowners throughout our trail system on this and other projects. We spent most of last Thursday and Friday mulching and seeding with a crew of three Center staff (150 bales of hay spread) so the job is well-finished. This upgrade to the Highland Lodge Connector could be considered a first step of the Kingdom Lakes Trail project, a good start to a ski trail network reaching East to Barton and points beyond.

Make sure the Highland Lodge ski is on your todo list this winter - come check out the changes!
