GRP in Davos and Hochfilzen12.Dec.2011 Our Green Racing Project contingent abroad saw more World Cup action this weekend in Davos, SUI and Hochfilzen, AUT respectively for Cross Country and Biathlon. Susan led the USBA as the top American woman in both the 7.5km sprint competition and the 10km pursuit. Dunklee had a miss each in prone and standing in the sprint, good for a 37th place finish and just shy of her 28th place high mark on the WC from the week before in Sweden. She was a bit shakier on the range in the next day's pursuit with 3+3 misses in her prone shootings, but she pulled it back together with only one miss in her final 2 standing stages to level off in 43rd, again leading the American women. While the US women were lapped in Sunday's relay and did not receive a time or place, Susan again skied a strong second leg with no penalties and using 5 extra rounds. Biathlon World Cup action will continue in Hochfilzen on Friday. Look for Susan to cap off this early season European tour with some more strong results in her first ever World Cup campaign! Also, she has some great race recaps up on our blog, so check them out here if you're looking for more. Not far from Austria, Craftsbury's Ida Sargent also lined up in the Freestyle XC Sprint in Davos, Switzerland. Sargent finished in 50th place, a tiny 3 seconds out of qualifying for the rounds in the top 30, and nearly an identical result to her finish in the Dusseldorf sprint the previous weekend. For those who haven't been paying attention, Sargent is among a group of 5 US women who are currently making their mark on the World Cup. The United States women are currently ranked 4th in the Nation's Cup, ahead of traditional powerhouses like Russia and Germany. Much of this is due to Anchorage, AK's Kikkan Randall's back to back World Cup wins in Dusseldorf and Davos, but the entire contingent has been quietly posting strong results in Kikkan's shadow. Sargent will race in the WC in Rogla, Slovenia next weekend, where a 10km Classic and Freestyle Sprint await. The GRP raced OPA Cups at the same venue last March, so the territory will be at least familiar for the jet-setting Sargent. Best of luck to our GRP women on the World Cup as they wrap up the first period of competition this coming weekend! Results: |
