2016 Junior Summer Ski Camps

U14/U16 Summer Camp (new this year!)

This year, we're introducing a short overnight camp aimed at U14s and U16s to help bridge the gap between our beloved BKL camps and our more intense junior camp. In many respects, the U14/U16 camp will mimic our junior camp, but will serve a slightly younger audience. Campers can expect to rollerski, do strength workouts, get out in the mountains, and spend time on the lake. They will also be introduced to fundamental training concepts, engage in technique work, and learn from members of the Craftsbury coaching staff and Craftsbury Green Racing Project team.

A detailed schedule will be posted as the date draws closer, but a sample day will look something like this:

8:15 - Breakfast
9:00 - Workout #1
11:30 - Waterfront time
12:00 - Lunch
1:00 - Quiet time, followed by training talk or other mellow activity
3:15 - Workout #2
6:00 - Dinner
7:00 - Training talk and/or evening activity: dance, movies, campfires
9:30 - Lights out

The camp will begin on the morning of Sunday, July 10th, and will end on the evening of Tuesday, July 12th. Campers will stay in the lodging here at the Outdoor Center and will eat all meals in our dining hall. Participation is limited to 18. Craftsbury Outdoor Center membership is required to participate in camps. Priority registration is given to Craftsbury ski club program participants. Registration for club skiers opens on March 19th; registration for general members opens on March 25th. The camp costs $250 for Craftsbury club skiers and $275 for general members (these charges include SkiReg service fees).

Junior Summer Camp

Our junior summer camp for U16 - U20 skiers is five days (four nights) long and is packed with training and playing. Skiers will be doing two workouts a day, including rollerskiing, running, weight and circuit training, technique work, biking, canoeing, kayaking, biathlon, and sculling. Junior camp participants are expected to be comfortable on rollerskis. This year's camp will likely include a time trial run up Elmore Mountain in Elmore State Park. This run has been used in the regional and national elite camps we've hosted the past several years for skiers to benchmark their fitness. Green Racing Project skiers will be doing this and other workouts with the kids in addition to sharing their experiences and knowledge in evening talks. In addition to the work will be play! Campers will have daily time to relax and unwind in between sessions, whether that's hanging out at the waterfront, lounging with a book, or picnicking and swimming in Lake Elmore after the run. Days close with relaxing activities like movies, campfires, or dances.

The camp will begin on the morning of Monday, August 8th, and will end on the afternoon of Friday, August 12th. The camp costs $425 for Craftsbury club skiers and $450 for general members (these charges include SkiReg service fees).
