Camp Purchase!
14.Jan.2011 We’re excited to announce the purchase of the neighboring Windridge Tennis Camp facility by our parent non-profit foundation. The 55-acre facility is contiguous with the property of the Outdoor Center and includes 3000 feet of beautiful waterfront. Craftsbury ski trails cross the camp property as well. The decision to purchase the camp is in keeping with the third prong of our mission: to protect and manage the surrounding land, lake and trails.
We will continue to run the former Windridge facility as a summer camp for kids, but with a new name and focus. Craftsbury Outdoor Camp at Hosmer Point will put more emphasis on the lifelong sports and activities that we know and love—and that fit our mission—such as sculling, mountain biking, xc running, and canoeing, while also maintaining many of the traditional activities that make summer camp special. Tennis will still be an optional elective activity, but not an area of focus. We hope to expand the wilderness program to incorporate hiking, orienteering and overnight adventures. In addition, we plan to add a design/build program where campers might learn to make rustic furniture or help make a wood-fired pizza/bread oven or build camper-sized sculling boats!
If you know of any kids who might like to attend a camp like this, please e-mail info@hosmerpoint.com. We hope to have a new website available soon for the camp and will be sure to pass that URL along as well. (UPDATE - check out the website at www.hosmerpoint.com) Looking forward to summer!
