Craftsbury Running Camps eNews, December 2008

While I'd like to convince you otherwise, this picture was not taken recently! Winter is fully here in Craftsbury and most of the local runners are skiing.

But to avoid winter torpor without resorting to ski boots, we spoke this month with some of our coaches who've found non-traditional challenges in their running to keep things fresh.

Sale
Before we go into that, we have some big news. The Center has recently been sold to Dick Dreissigacker and Judy Geer who have restructured the organization as a non-profit entity.

What does this mean for programs such as running? With the Center's financial position bolstered by the sale, campers should look for land preservation efforts, more green initiatives and steady improvement in the physical plant of the Center - all while building on the foundation of the success we've enjoyed to this point in our programming.

"During our discussions about the vision for the Center, it became apparent that there was quite a bit of common ground between the Spring family's mission for Craftsbury and what the Foundation envisions," Craftsbury Manager, Russ Spring Jr. explains. "The foundation's goal is to build upon the work started by our founders, Russell and Janet Spring, so many years ago, keeping current staff and programming in place while improving and expanding the reach of the Center's programs."

While much work lies ahead, it's hard not to feel optimistic about the Center's future right now. You can read more details about the sale here.

Treasured Trails: Cross-country reflections by Lynn Jennings
One way to get through winter is embrace the challenge. And who better to talk about the cross-country than three time World Champion (and Craftsbury coach) Lynn Jennings?

Mountain Running from the Inside
As mentioned in the last issue, coach Eric Blake was third man on the third-placed US Men's team at the World Mountain Running Championships. The 2008 national champ took some time to talk with us about this branch of the sport.

That's a bit of what's happening from here at the home office. On behalf of Greg, Eric, Lynn, Bill, and Brett as well as the rest of the staff, Happy Holidays and a healthy happy New Year to you and yours. Now, bundle up and keep going through the hard yards of winter!

Best wishes,

-Sheldon Miller, Marketing Director
