Great winter cross-training for runners of all abilities

January 31 - February 3, 2013 (4 days / 3 nights)

Our 2013 running season opens with our winter cross-training offering! Join Running Camp Director Lynn Jennings and Green Racing Project skiers for four days and three nights of winter training fun. Building on last winter's inaugural Run2Ski weekend, in addition to another day of camp, the 2013 version will also offer the attractions of the TD Bank Craftsbury Marathon and a 5/10k snowshoe race on the same weekend. The 2013 runner-skiers will definitely be busy and challenged!

The ski programming will include daily instruction in both skate and classical skiing disciplines. There will be plenty of non-skiing action each day including circuit sessions in the fitness room, runs on your favorite roads (the Ridge Run was proclaimed to be at its most beautiful last winter!), snowshoeing, erging on the Concept2 rower, and broomball on the Touring Center pond. As always, we've arranged the programming to allow plenty of free time and recovery. Runners can kick back and relax with a book, take a sauna or head out for a snowshoe ramble through the woods.

Just as in summer, three hearty, homemade meals will be served in the cozy dining hall. After dinner, unwind with friends new and old at wine and cheese socials, or enjoy simply relaxing in Cedar Lounge. You will easily fill the evening hours!

The complete four day and three night package of programming, instruction, lodging, and meals is available for $530 with a double occupancy accommodation. Program pricing also includes trail use fees, snowshoe race entry, and snowshoe rental for the week and the capstone race.

Don't miss out on this popular weekend. The Run2Ski program is limited to 20 participants, so don't hesitate to sign up now. See you in January!

FAQs

Run2Ski Instruction

Can anyone attend? I've never skied or snowshoed before.
Yes! Lynn and the Green Racing Project skiers are both ready to coach and instruct all comers. Skiing is technical, but you'll find much of your fitness and fundamentals of running translate nicely to the snow - and you'll get a great workout! You'll leave Craftsbury with new skills that open a whole new realm of experiences and cross-training possibilities.

I don't have skis, snowshoes or other wintry gear. Can I get that at the Center?
The Touring Center is well stocked with skis and snowshoes. Your rental of both is included in the program pricing.

I have no idea what to wear. I don't need a whole new wardrobe do I?
If you have running gear for temperatures in the 30s (F) and below, you have a good start on gear for nordic skiing. As you are always moving, you stay far warmer than alpine skiing or snowboarding for instance. As in running, you want your gear to be fairly fitted, synthetic or wool-based rather than cotton for good moisture management, and you'll want some nice wind resistant layers. The only departures clothing wise that you'll want to be sure to include are good gloves, ideally with a leather or other sturdy palm, windfront underwear (if you're wearing tights), and a balaclava or buff for cold mornings. With long underwear, a mid weight layer and some wind resistant outer shells, you'll be amazed at what you can tackle!
