Fall Speed Order Results

16.Nov.2009

Several SBTC athletes travelled to Princeton, NJ for the USRowing East Coast Fall Speed Orders this past weekend. The Speed Orders offer athletes the chance to test their speed - and hopefully grab the attention of National Team coaches, earning invites to further development camps and other opportunities.

The East Coast Speed Order format is a 6k erg piece on Saturday that determines starting position in Sunday's 4.5k head race. Women all compete in the single, but men can elect to compete in straight pair as well.

Peter Graves headed south from Hartford for the weekend. Saturday saw him pull a 20:01. He then partnered with little brother John (another SBTC-er) in the 2- where they raced to 6th over the 4.5k course.

SBTC member Erick Winstead finished 22nd on the 6k piece, ending 26th on the day in the head race.

Shay Saeger really made the most of her moment. In Saturday's 6k, she posted a new PR by 25 seconds. She had the best time in this piece at last Saturday's ID camp, but this was a big jump from Shay. Sunday's singles race saw her speed to an 18:54, matching her starting seed (bow 25, 25th place finish).

Shay has accepted an offer from the National Team to remain in Princeton another week for additional training and testing - quite a coup for the rower who spent most of the fall riding the stationary bike after a rib injury.

Another performance worth noting was that of Craftsbury coach Ann Holmes of Philadelphia's Penn AC. Ann finished about 30 seconds behind Shay in the 6k erg. However, the tables were turned as Ann used her experience in the single to slice through traffic en route to an 11th place finish.

Congratulations to all the athletes on the weekend's performances.
