GRP at Nationals - UPDATE

06.Jan.2012

6 Jan 11 Update:  Ida 2nd in 20k classic mass start! Unofficial results.

Wondering where the GRP have been this week? The whole crew went to Rumford, Maine for the 2012 US Cross Country Championships. After a slow start due to poor conditions, racing is in full swing!

Following a canceled day of competiton, Tuesday saw the tracks groomed back up and ready to go for the freestyle sprints. After qualifying, the GRP was sitting pretty:

GRP Women, FS sprint qualifier:
Ida Sargent - 3rd
Maria Stuber - 4th
Hannah Dreissigacker - 8th
Clare Egan - 19th

GRP Men, FS sprint qualifier:
Tim Reynolds - 7th
Pat O'Brien - 21st
Dylan McGuffin - 31st (just out of qualifying by 0.05s!)
Bryan Cook - 35th
Nils Koons (not a GRP member, but part of the training group) - 44th

The heats were full of drama:  broken poles, falls, near dislocated shouders - oh my! When the dust settled, the GRP had placed all their women in the top 13 of 150, with Pat and Tim both in the top 12 on the men's side! As a capper on the day, Craftsbury Junior Tara Geraghty-Moats was back in action without her biathlon rifle, and ended up 24th in the junior girls' sprint too.

Thursday morning saw the individual start distance event of the championships:  a 10/15k freestyle this year. Bryan Cook popped a 5th place behind his former teammate and today's winner Tad Elliott! Nice work! Across the board, solid results for Craftsbury:

GRP athletes, 10/15k Individual Start Freestyle:
Clare - 11th
Ida - 12th
Hannah - 17th
Maria - 19th
Bryan - 5th
Nils - 16th
Tim - 20th
Dylan - 24th
Pat - 31st

Tommorow brings the 20/30k mass start classic event, with Sunday closing with classic sprints. Want to keep track of the goings on? There are a ton of ways to follow the event, but most notable are these two:

Fasterskier - good features coverage, and a twitter feed that provides some live results
The event web page - with a schedule, results, and photos.

Good luck to the GRP as the racing continues!
