SBTC 2009-2010
08.Oct.2009 “There is no doubt in my mind that Craftsbury was the difference between winning and losing. This place is definitely magical to us.” – Peter Graves, 2009 SBTC participant, bow, US Senior men’s 2x 2009.
The Craftsbury Outdoor Center's Small Boat Training Program is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 training year. Candidates can apply for immediate, long term openings as well as summer 2010 programming.
Year round candidates would have access to on-water opportunities until roughly Thanksgiving, after which point cross-training would begin: Nordic skiing, biking and running along with ergometer rowing and weight training. An early spring warm weather trip will be planned to bridge the time between the end of skiing and the beginning of on-water training.
The 2010 summertime-only component will begin roughly in May - collegiate athletes will be welcomed after their national championships are completed. The summer’s competitive opportunities will include the 2010 trials in the men’s and women's open and lightweight single, pair and double for either U-23 or Senior National Team trials, 2010 Senior Nationals and Canadian Henley.
Successful applicants to either program will reside on the campus of the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, train twice a day, have access to the SBTC fleet and Center facilities, as well as have some travel expenses and race entries covered by the Center. A work component (balanced against the athlete’s training schedule) helps participants offset room and board expenses.
During the 2009 summer season members of both the United States U-23 and Senior National Teams trained as part of the SBTC group. We hope to make our second season even more successful in assisting athletes reach their goals.
Interested candidates can download and complete an application from here. Need more information? View our FAQs here, email Coach Gluckman or call 802.586.7767 for additional information. Candidates applying by October 15th will be interviewed at Craftsbury’s booth at the Head of the Charles Regatta. YouTube videos of the candidate's sweep rowing or sculling would be helpful to the application process.
