Tech Tip: Principles to Row By
Marlene sends a collection of tips to keep your rowing career on track now and into the future.
Winter Team Cross Training Deals
Each winter, more teams and groups are realizing the benefits cross training can give their rowing. This year, we're offering special pricing for rowing teams of 10 or more who come with a coach. We can provide as much or as little instruction and support as you and your team need: equipment rentals, workouts, ski instruction - you name it.
Contact larryg@craftsbury.com to talk about your ideas for creating a week that will build your team physically, refresh them mentally, and strengthen them as a crew.
Don't quite have 10 athletes? Drop us a line we'll do our best to create a plan and a price that will still allow you to join us.
2010 Internships
Craftsbury Sculling Center is now accepting student intern applications for the 2010 camp season. Read more on the website.
2010 Rates and Dates
We are accepting reservations for the 2010 camp season. Regular campers will notice the addition of a couple new options for camp length, including two, full week (7 day/6 night) camps whose schedule should allow for more cross training and exploration of the area (as well as more instruction).
Also, we've scheduled the July 4th week such that you can enjoy the Fourth with your family, then the rest of the week at sculling camp! See the whole schedule here.
SBTC News
The Small Boat Training Center has stayed busy this fall, contesting several head races and attending the USRowing ID camp and Fall Speed Orders. There have been several noteworthy results, highlighted by a win in the 2009 Head of the Charles Champ 2x by SBTC participants Tom and Peter Graves and an impressive return to competition by Shay Saeger. Shay's work has earned her an extended stay at Princeton after the Fall Speed Order. You can read more about the fall results below:

Fall Racing Blog coverage
That last link tips my hand about the next bit of news, the new SBTC blog. You can follow what's happening and get a bit of a sense of what the SBTC is all about.
One last bit of SBTC related news, we are currently accepting applications for the 2010 program - both summer only and more of a year round involvement. Interested U23 and Senior rowers or scullers are encouraged to apply. Find details here.
2009 SkiErg World Sprints
While not many of us can claim to have gotten in on the ground floor of indoor racing at the inaugural CRASH-Bs, more people can say they participated in the first World SkiErg Sprints. The Center hosted the inaugural event this November 14 with satellite locations all over. Find results here.
Pizza Oven and other Campus Changes
The changes we've made this fall shutdown most visible to rowers are a new woodfired oven close to the dining hall, and the construction of a new maintenance building/grooming equipment garage by Cedar. The plan is to fire the oven on a weekly basis for breads and possibly a pizza night for campers out by the horseshoe pit. While the garage is less obviously glamorous, it will definitely help us provide better guest experiences year round.
It's actually been a busy summer of trail maintenance as well - something everyone who visits during the summer can enjoy on walks and runs in the woods too.
Lisa Schlenker's New Book: ERG: 75 workouts for athletes
Just in time for the winter indoor season, Craftsbury Coach Lisa Schlenker has released a new book of workouts for the erg. I haven't had opportunity to look them over in any detail, but any time you can find a new way to spice up your time on the erg, it's a good thing. Find more details here.
Lastly, congratulations to Marie Peters of Delaware who visited us at our booth at the Head of the Charles and won our FREE week of camp in 2010. We held raffles at the Head of the Schuylkill and Hooch, but haven't gotten any responses from the names we've drawn yet. We'll keep at it until we get a winner.
That's a bit of what's happening here at the home office. On behalf of Norm, Kevin, Ric, Noel, Larry and Troy, as well as the rest of the CSC coaches and staff,
All the best,
Sheldon Miller
