October 3- Henley on Hosmer
It's never too early to be thinkingabout the 2015 edition of Henley on Hosmerour fall regatta. This year's race will take place on the afternoon of October 3rd and will correspond with our 2015 Oktoberfest weekend. Markyour calendars and come join us for a weekend full of fun events headlined by a sure-to-be-delicious Oktoberfest dinner in the Activity Center.
Tech Tip: Find Your Footing with Parker Washburn
Perhaps the greatest piecesof technology and feedback in rowing are attached to a pair of legs. Rower’s are accustomed to calls from coaches and coxswains like “more legs” “more body swing” “less bodyswing” “don’t rush your recovery” and all of these are certainly well intentioned pieces of advice but how does arower know when he/she has made the change that the coach or cox is asking for? GRP Athlete Parker Washburn advocates for referencing the feet for the answer. Read more.
Meet the 2015 SBTC
Nine U23 athletes from all over the United States comprise our 2015 Small Boat TrainingCenter crew. Coached by our Sculling Director Troy Howell and visiting coach Burt Apfelbaum the three men and six women will be training in Craftsbury all summer focusing on honing their sculling skills. SBTC to Represent US at U23 Champs
Three 2015 SBTC scullers will represent the US at the U23 World Championships in Plovdiv Bulgaria at the end of July. Ben Davison will be contesting the men's single while Taylor Beach and Ned Benning will make up the men's double. In addition to the men's boats the women's doubleconsisting of former SBTC athlete Mary Carmack and partner Megan Goodwin are training in Craftsbury until they leave for Europe. GRP Lightweights Head to World Championships
GRP lightweights Hugh McAdam and Phil Henson will both be heading to France at the end of August to race at the world championships. Phil will be a member of thelightweight men's eight while Hugh will join three other scullersin the lightweight men's quad. It is the first senior national team for both men.
GRP Claims Three National Titles
The GRP joinedthe SBTC scullers fresh off their successes at the U23/Senior Trials I at USRowing's Elite National Championships in New Jersey. Craftsbury came away with three national championships as well as three other medals. Read more about the weekend includinga thrilling battle between brothers Peter and Tom Graves for the win in the heavyweight single.
World Cup Update
Three GRP rowers have represented the U.S. in World Cup competition this season. Willy Cowles finished 11th in the men's single at World Cup II in Varese Italy while double partners Ben Dann and John Graves matched Willy'sperformance in the men's double sculls event. John and Ben remained in Europe contesting World Cup III in Lucerne. The double finished 4th in the B final for 10th overall this past weekend.
