2008 Rates and Dates!
Craftsbury Sculling Center is pleased to present our third year of offering premium physiological testing services as part of our camp. For the third year, we've partnered with Dr. Declan Connolly, the Director of the UVM Human Performance Lab to provide physiological testing at our facilities this summer. In an effort to broaden the program's availability, we're also working with Joey Adams, M.S. of Intelligent Fitness. The combination of Joey and Declan allows us to offer physiological testing nearly every week as well as most four-day sessions of our 2008 camp schedule.

Each of these weeks, our guest lecturer will lead campers in a general discussion regarding physiology and then test those who are interested the next morning. Testing can be performed on a bike, ergometer or treadmill and is very comprehensive. Beyond VO2Max and anaerobic threshold data, clients will receive peak heart rate and training zone data along with an abundance of other individualized information to maximize your training program. The charge to Craftsbury campers will be $129 for Dr. Connolly's work, $149 on the weeks Joey will be joining us.
Lots of us have a heart rate monitor, but few actually know what the numbers mean, especially as they impact our training. After testing, you will be armed with accurate, personal training zones, built on data specific to your sport, so you know that you're working at just the level you need to. Whether you're a weekend warrior or an aspiring elite, this knowledge allows you to design an optimal program to reach your goals most effectively.
Why not just stick with the formulas that came with your heart rate monitor? Guessing at your training zones or using a formula that doesn't take into consideration your unique physiological differences and the specific demands of your chosen sport opens the door to mediocrity and injury. To train most effectively, you have to know your zones-zones determined from testing. Knowing your zones helps you to cut out "junk miles" whether you're going too hard or too easy.
