2010 TD Bank Craftsbury Marathon 29th Annual Race and Tour
This year part of the National Masters' Championship!

The Craftsbury Marathon is the premier ski event of the east: a twenty five kilometer loop-course, classic technique ski marathon or tour, traversing Vermont's spectacular Northeast Kingdom on Saturday, January 30, 2010.

The marathon offers 25 and 50 kilometer races in addition to a 25 kilometer touring division. The tour features delicious home-style food stations starts and finishes on scenic Craftsbury Common.

This event is part of the prestigious American Ski Marathon Series and the New England Marathon Series - as well as featuring in 2010 as the distance event for the National Masters' Championships. For many years it has been proclaimed by the State Chamber of Commerce as one of the "Top Ten Winter Events in Vermont".

The marathon has always been a spectacular event, but we've really upped the ante in 2010 with additional racing opportunities and an exciting Friday night sprint with a cash purse as well. No matter whether you choose to compete, tour the scenic countryside or volunteer to raise money for your favorite cause, we believe you'll find that the marathon is an event with something for everyone.

Important Dates for the 2010 Marathon Week

GET INVOLVED

The Craftsbury Marathon offers participants a number of ways to enjoy some of the best skiing in the east:

RACE -

The 50k or 25k race offers competitors a mass start, timed challenge over a 25k loop course. This year, racers will be grouped in waves according to gender, race category and age group to allow for a less congested start to the racing. Feed stations every 4 to 7 kilometers dot the well-groomed route. After the finish, all participants are treated to a hearty post race meal and awards. The top racer in each 5 year class is awarded a locally handcrafted pottery bowl. Special pins will be awarded to second and third places. 2010 offers interested competitors the opportunity to compete in several events leading up to the marathon - including the Onion River Sports Dash for Cash, a 200m sprint competition to determine the winner of a $1000 purse! You can read all the entrant details here, or register on this page.

TOUR -

Like to enjoy the scenery with a little less blur? Or perhaps wanting to share the event with your children? The Tour offers participants the opportunity to enjoy the same beautiful vistas and high quality groomed tracks as the speedy crowd in a lower stress environment. No timing also means that you also have time to sample items from local restaurants and delis. Highland Lodge's David and Willie Smith have been hosts for a start line breakfast banquet of fresh juice, coffee, bagels and a variety of delicious home made muffins from 7:00 AM until the start.

At 9:00 AM five hundred lycra-clad racers explode from the start line followed by a more leisurely paced touring class departure after 9:30. You're then free to enjoy as chef-owner Bill Maier of the Craftsbury Inn dishes out a hearty split pea soup with ham, fresh home made bread and spicy hot cider. Joining these fine businesses will be Claire's Restaurant from Hardwick. For those inclined, there will be seating around a cheery bonfire at the on-course food stations. After the event, the movable feast continues with a hearty lunch at Sterling College.

One more reason to tour? Tourers pay a reduced entry fee. You can read all the entrant details here, or register on this page.

VOLUNTEER -

Volunteer Image

Volunteering offers a unique experience of the race that can net the participant either a FREE annual membership or money for their Non-profit group! Non Profit Groups who wish to sign up as volunteers at one of the on-course aid stations are eligible for Center-funded donations based on the number of volunteers and the number of hours they work. Unaffiliated volunteers sign up early and the Craftsbury Outdoor Center will give you a FREE SEASON PASS valid starting the day after the marathon. Check out complete information on the volunteer program here.
