Craftsbury at HOCR '11
01.Nov.2011 The 2011 Head of the Charles coverage has been somewhat lost in our early season snow and scores of projects - but don’t think that we didn’t make our annual autumnal pilgrimage to Cambridge. In addition to our booth (thanks to so many for stopping by!), Craftsbury had LOTS of connections racing - too many to list, so I must ask forgiveness in advance as I'm sure I've left folks out. The headline result for Craftsbury affiliated crews has to be the Graves brothers' win in the Men's Champ double for the third consecutive year. The former SBTCers made their return to the international stage as members of the US squad this summer, and used that form to post a 16 second win over the US Training Center boat from Oklahoma. Winning at Charles once is something that virtually every rower aspires to, but three consecutive wins - in the Championship class no less? Wow.
Another noteworthy showing was the double victory by coach Lisa Schlenker. She opened her account on Saturday with a resounding 27 second victory in the Women's Senior Master Single (40+), then jumped into a women's quad on Sunday for another medal. Very cool.
Like I mentioned, there are a ton of Craftsbury results, all with great stories to tell. Here's a small sampling:
- Emily Dreissigacker crossed the line 21st in the Women's Champ 1x, and SBTC athlete John Graves finished 10th in Men's Champ 1x, going up to open weight after competing all summer as a lightweight.
- Running Camp Director Lynn Jennings grabbed HOCR bronze in her first go at the Charles. Lynn contested the Women's Grand Master 1x (50+)
- Fleet Manager Troy Howell and his double’s partner, Pat McDonough, ended the day 6th in the Men's Masters 2x (40+)
- Judy and Carlie Geer powered the 1980 Rowing Club Senior Master's Women's 8+ (50+) to silver, only 10 seconds off the win.
- Dick Dreissigacker and his cohorts at the Motley Rowing Club grabbed 8th in the Men's version of the same event, crossing the line in 16:55.47
- And Associate Director Noel Wanner finished 23rd in the Men’s Senior Masters 1x (40+).
Congrats to all! Find full results here.
