Elmore Mountain TT and NENSA REG camp

29.Jun.2010

NENSA's annual Regional Elite Group (REG) camp started on Friday, and this year it's taking place in Craftsbury. It's exciting for us to get to show off our summer training grounds to some of the best juniors in New England, as well as other coaches like Matt Whitcomb (USST), Cami Thompson (Dartmouth), and Janice Sibilia (NENSA)!

The camp dove right into the tough stuff with a running time trial up Mount Elmore on Saturday. Although a few area athletes have used the course as a time trial before, there are no established records, and only a few Craftsbury skiers had ever hiked it, so there wasn't any home course advantage. The course - which started off on a dirt road before turning onto steep, rocky singletrack - wasn't easy for anyone, and the humidity only made things more difficult.

In the end, Craftsbury Green Racing Project athletes swept both the men's and women's races. Dylan McGuffin and Tim Reynolds tied for the fastest time of the day, 17:16, followed by teammate Matt Briggs in second place with a 17:43 effort. After J1 David Sinclair in third, Patrick O'Brien finished fourth in 18:21. Craftsbury/Colby College skier Jake Barton was 7th and GRPer Ollie Burruss followed in 8th.

Nobody was surprised that Ida Sargent took top honors in the women's race, finishing in 20:54. She battled it out at the end with teammate Hannah Dreissigacker, who ultimately finished second in 21:12. The GRP's Chelsea Little made it a podium sweep when she finished 3rd in 22:01. Lauren Jacobs was 10th.

Stay tuned for more news as the REG camp continues!
