Dunklee 17th at Antholz-Anterselva World Cup

20.Jan.2012

It can seem like a basic equation:  take the ski speed the GRP's Susan Dunklee has shown all season, add hot shooting with only one miss = the GRP biathlete's first World Cup top 20. But when you factor in Dunklee was still recovering from a cold after having missed some races, the learning curve that accompanies competiting in your rookie season on the World Cup - to say nothing of the quality of competition, vagueries of ski prep, and much more - Susan's 17th place in Thursday's 7.5k sprint in Antholz-Anterselva is more elegant calculus than simple arithmetic.

Not only was it a personal best for Susan, not only was it the best finish by an American woman this season on the Biathlon World Cup, but with this placing she punched her ticket for Sunday's mass start, an exclusive affair for only 30 competitors, 25 spots of which are determined by overall World Cup points.

Strong work Susan, and good luck on Sunday. Read more details of the race and Susan's performance over at Fasterskier, and find full results here.
