New Garage
10.Nov.2009 A new garage is a current effort to better support the grooming and maintenance functions at the Center. The structure sits just north of Cedar Lodge, by the tennis courts and the old maintenance and grooming facilities.
The new building will house the snowcats, with additional space for other vehicle maintenance. A shop area will allow maintenance to work in a heated area this winter for the first time in 35 years, with a storage area in the upstairs of the building providing space for course marking and other light storage.
Perhaps most exciting part of the project is some of the infrastructure. While that may sound less than glamorous, the building will be heated by a HS Tarm Solo Innova - a truly state of the art wood gasification boiler housed in part of the old maintenance shed. The boiler will feed a radiant floor system that will warm the new garage efficiently. This demonstration project will allow us to gauge the heating plant's suitability for other projects around the Center like potential installation in Cedar and Tamarack Lodges, increasing their efficiency as well.
Another detail of the building design is the roof. Angled sharply and facing south, the hope is to install photovoltaic cells sometime in the future to provide a portion of the building's power from the sun.
The building is still a work in process, but we hope to have it together prior to opening December 18.
