Craftsbury Checkpoint Challenge
Gather three of your family, friends, team-mates or co-workers and join us Saturday afternoon, October 8, for the 2016 Craftsbury Checkpoint Challenge, part of our annual Oktoberfest celebration.
The Challenge is an endurance team adventure race meant to challenge participants physically and mentally. It is a timed race that requires racers to complete a series of tasks in order to finish. Starting at 3:30 pm, teams of four will race from checkpoint to checkpoint on foot, navigating by map. At each stop, teams will be given a new task to complete - or a time penalty to accept if they don't want to take the challenge. Challenges are widely varied, and the exact details of each will not be announced prior to the event, but expect to be tested. Some examples of tasks that could be included:
- Making and lighting a fire
- Felling a tree
- Constructing a simple structure
- Solving a brain teaser
- Carrying a cumbersome object
- Retrieving something from a swamp
While perhaps cliché, racers should truly expect the unexpected in this event. While challenges will vary year to year, the video from last year's Checkpoint Challenge will give you an idea of the type of challenges to expect. The team that completes all the tasks in the shortest period of time (including time penalties) is the winner.
We'll be giving awards for Open and Family divisions. Be sure to refuel afterwards at our Oktoberfest dinner and celebration on Saturday night! Yum!
