Craftsbury Checkpoint Challenge

Gather three of your family, friends, team-mates or co-workers and join us Saturday afternoon, October 7, for the 2017 Craftsbury Checkpoint Challenge, part of our annual Oktoberfest celebration.

The Checkpoint Challenge will take a slight different form this year. Instead of a timed endurance race, where teams are required to complete all of the tasks in a certain time frame, this year the challenge will occur concurrently with our Community Open House, from 1-4 pm on the afternoon of October 7. Teams of four can visit the stations at their own pace and compete to have the fastest time in each individual challenge. They can choose to compete in one station, all of the stations, or anything in between. Prizes will be given to the winners of each station at the end of our open house.

Challenges are widely varied, and the exact details of each will not be announced prior to the event, but expect to be tested. Some examples of tasks that could be included:

  • Making and lighting a fire
  • Felling a tree
  • Constructing a simple structure
  • Solving a brain teaser
  • Carrying a cumbersome object
  • Retrieving something from a swamp

While perhaps cliché, racers should truly expect the unexpected in this event. While challenges will vary year to year, the video from the 2015 Checkpoint Challenge will give you an idea of the type of challenges to expect.

Be sure to refuel afterwards at our Harvest dinner and celebration on Saturday night! Yum!
