Endless Winter: Southern Hemisphere 2013

The whole family!

The whole family!

Some Craftsbury members just can't get enough snow and winter. The Massey-Biermans are one such family, having spent much of August in New Zealand and Australia. 16 days on snow, pretty high up (>1600m).

They even got to race! The girls, Marika and Quincy Massey-Bierman, won their age groups in a classic race at Snow Farm, and were the first women at Falls Creek. But the real coup was to come at the Hoppet: all the women in the family won their races! Quincy in U12/7km. Marika in the U16/21k, and Christine in the U55/1k. Paul represented in the 42k, posting a 2:33.

In addition to their competitions, the family also got to watch some very high level athletes race, as the Polish, Canadians and Russian men were all there putting in miles. They were most impressed with Justyna Kowalczyk and the amount of power she's able to put out up hill.

All in all, sounds like a great trip!
