New Technology deployed by the Old

The Center is always looking at ways to improve guest experience. We're in the midst of a project with Fairpoint to bolster our network access. Lots of infrastructure to deploy yet, and we're a ways away, but steps are progressing.

A click of the tongue and away goes the horse and his driver off along the cable run, into the woods.

Today's example of this progress was an interesting blend of new technology and technology far more familiar to our grandparents:  the Fairpoint truck pulled up with a gigantic spool of wire to run out and string up on the poles...and a big black brown Percheron to pull it out and through the woods. Pretty sweet! Apparently, this is the preferred way to cover territory in the brushy fields and forests of the NEK - there's actually a horse/teamster shortage. (Hey Sterling College, seems like another opportunity for your draft power program!)
