Fight Carbon Emissions, save cash

For the Climate Strike Week of September 20-27th, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center will be incentivizing fossil-fuel free transport.

For pay as you go classes...if you don’t drive, you don’t pay! COC will be offering free fitness classes for anyone who commutes to yoga, cross-fit, or community fitness by bike, on foot, or by another human-powered means. You also get the added benefits of fresh air, exercise, and a nice warmup and cool down for your class or practice. And you save money on both the class and gas!

For pre-paid programs (Community Rowing, Ski programming, etc):Anyone who bikes to practice will get their name put in a raffle for $100 off the next season of your program. That's right, for each time you bike or walk or run to practice, you can put your name in the bucket to ...

CNSC at the ADK mini tour

Last weekend Lake Placid, New York played host to the inaugural Adirondack Rollerski Mini Tour. In this all-freestyle weekend, racers were treated to three competition opportunities: a 3k prologue, a 1.5k cross country cross sprint (XCX), and the five mile Climb to the Castle up Whiteface Mountain. Four CNSC juniors crossed Lake Champlain with Coach Anna Schulz for a combined race weekend/training camp. For the girls, it was Maggie McGee and Quincy Massey-Bierman and for the boys it was Jack Young and Greyson Davis. To make good use of the drive, the crew hiked on the Adirondack High Peaks on Saturday afternoon and ripped around on mountain bikes after Sunday’s race.

Results: Autumn Evening XC Race #3

The third Autumn Evening XC Race of the season is in the books! We had six teams mixing it up on course tonight, with another tight battle in the team score. Team Ice Cream Butt held onto the trophy this week with a low score of 14 points, besting Team Sterling's 17 points and Team Pie Slammers' 19 points. Rounding out the team challenge were Team Running Wolves, Team Strong, and Team Master Blasters. In the individual race, Ollie Burrus of Team Ice Cream Butt ran to an impressive time of 18:42 to claim the men's overall race. Audrey Mangan, also of Team Ice Cream Butt, took the women's overall win in a blazing time of 22:06. Smooth and strong running all around!

Oct 5-6: Fall Fest 2019

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center is excited to present Fall Fest 2019, coming to Craftsbury this October 5th and 6th. Mark your calendars now, and join us for a weekend of delicious food, fun races, and spectacular foliage in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.

On Saturday, the 5th of October, the weekend will kick off with the Singletrack Shootout, a mountain biking or running biathlon race featuring the Center’s singletrack trails. Novices and experts, kids and adults are all welcome; novices will have ammo and rifles provided and a shooting clinic will precede the novice race. 

Also on Saturday, the 5th, Craftsbury will host its first ever Fall Fest Farmer Games. The Farmer Games is a 4-person team event with four individual disciplines and one team relay.  The event as a whole ...

Results: Genny Tenny Point to Point Fundraiser Run

An international field of 50 runners took to the roads this morning in the second annual Genny Tenny fundraiser run. Today's cool, dry, and sunny weather made for spectacular running weather, and racers enjoyed clear views over the rolling hills and a striking Mount Mansfield beyond! With runners from the US, Mexico, and Canada, the race saw fast times despite the course's grueling climbs. Neal Graves of Stowe, VT blazed his way to the overall win in an impressive time of 59:50, not only breaking the hour barrier but also besting second place by over a minute! George Aitken of Waterbury Center, VT took the runner-up position in 1:00:44 and David Spandorfer of Somerville, MA took third in 1:06:27. The second outing in our Autumn Evening XC Race series saw new teams, strong running, and a tight battle in the team scores! The team challenge again saw a close finish between Team "Sterling" and Team "Ice Cream Butt", with Ice Cream Butt edging out Sterling to claim the Team Trophy by just one point! A new team, Team "Running Wolves", ran to a strong third place over Team "Strong" and Team "Master Blasters". Great to see so many runners out there pushing themselves in the hunt for the team title!  This week's 5k trail course sent runners on a mix of singletrack and ski trail. Runners will return to the main 5k cross country course next week. Remember, it's not too late to get a team together and win that Team Trophy! Registration begins at 4:55, race starts at 5:30.

Sept 20: Next Women's MTB Clinic

Back for summer 2019, the Craftsbury Outdoor Center is offering a series of free introductory/beginner mountain bike clinics & group rides for women. Clinics will focus on learning and honing mountain bike skills in a safe, supportive environment. Participants must be at least 18 years old. No previous mountain bike experience is necessary, but participants must be able to competently and safely ride a bicycle. 

Our next clinic will be on Friday, September 20 from 5:30 - 7:00pm. Sessions will take place once a month from June through September; see dates below.
