Patterson Makes Olympic Debut; Sargent Races Classic Sprint with Broken Thumb

The 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea are well underway, with four races down and just two more remaining. For Patterson, it was her Olympic debut after a strong early season qualified her for the Games. Sargent is competing in her second Olympic Games.

February 10- 7.5/7.5k Skiathlon
The skiathlon doesn’t make an appearance on the World Cup very often, but it’s a staple event at World Championship and Olympic events. For the women’s race, skiers start with 7.5k of classic, then halfway through the race switch equipment to freestyle skis and poles and finish with 7.5k in that discipline. ...

Dining Hall Renovation

If you’ve been to the Outdoor Center recently, you likely noticed new construction surrounding the Dining Hall. At the completion of our recent Hilltop Cabins project, it became apparent that a renovation of the Dining Hall would be the next important facilities update.

With frequent consultation from Craftsbury Outdoor Center staff, local architect Patrick Kane has designed a renovation plan for the existing dining hall structure, as well as the addition of a new kitchen and an improved entryway. The new kitchen will feature a larger space with ...

Owls of Vermont

Owls of Vermont, February 14, at 6:30pm, Activity Center

We're happy to announce an evening with long-time COC member and friend, Elinor Osborn. Elinor will share her love of birds in a discussion about owls featuring her photography and recordings of calls that she has made. A long time nature photographer, Osborn explains:  "Photography enables me to see details of nature which remain hidden from casual observation. There are so many exciting aspects of plants, animals, weather phenomena and more to find and learn about, that I enjoy being outdoors more than anything else."

Ski-O trails at COC

Wondering what's up with all the additional singletrack? Temporary trails are being groomed by snowshoe and snowmobile for the upcoming Ski-Orienteering World Cup races, March 5-10, 2018.

These trails intersect and overlap with existing snowshoe, MTB and ski trails in many sections of the trail network. It can get confusing out there! How are you to stay on the mapped singletrack? Pay attention to the wooden snowshoe or MTB signs.

Want to explore the temporary trails? If you are up for the adventure (you're physically prepared, have the skills and equipment to wander further afield), exploring the temporary trails is okay if they are hard packed. These are temporary trails, so they’re not built, or groomed to the same standard as the rest of our networks - use at your own risk. ...
