TNR #3 Results

After a holiday and Nationals-induced hiatus, Tuesday Night Racing returned last night! 54 racers took on the north 5k race course in an interval start freestyle. Nils Koons took the overall win in a time of 13:18, followed 18 seconds later by Ethan Dreissigacker. Wes Vear was third place overall, almost a minute back from Ethan's time.

Jenny McIlvane won the women's race in 17:21, good for 21st place overall. The second-place female finisher was Joann Hanowski, 20 seconds off of Jenny, and third-place went to Jen Forbes, who was another minute back in 28th place.

We're shaking things up a bit next week with a change to the format: racers will compete in both classic and skate for a skiathlon! More information to come.

Craftsbury at the Bogburn and Stowe Derby

With Nationals concluded and another two weeks until the Eastern Cup resumes, Craftsbury racers travelled throughout the state to find some less traditional but equally exhilarating racing opportunities. On Saturday, Bob Haydock served up the Bogburn Classic, a singletrack excursion in Pomfret, VT.  On Sunday, racers cruised down Mt. Mansfield and in to Stowe for the annual Stowe Derby. There were Craftsbury contingents of all ages at these races and you can read about all of them here!

The Bogburn was a snowy wonderland and the older racers traversed 10k through the woods. In the women’s race, Adrienne Remick was 17th and the 9th U18 and Jessica Bolduc was 28th. In the U16 women’s race, Quincy Massey-Bierman was 1st followed by Camille Bolduc in 9th. On the men’s side, Damian ...

Sargent Races Dresden World Cup

After winning the classic sprint at US Cross Country Championships on January 4, Ida Sargent was back in action on the World Cup in Dresden, Germany this weekend. Dresden is a city sprint, where organizers bring in truckloads of snow to spread on the city streets among historic buildings. With limited snow in Dresden, there was green grass on the side of the course, and even a spectator on horseback in the adjacent field!

Sargent raced a freestyle sprint on Saturday, January 12, finishing 38th in the qualifier. She was just 2 seconds out of qualifying for the rounds, while dealing with an issue with her femoral nerve that is aggravated by icy conditions like Dresden. The following day, Sargent teamed up with World Cup rookie Hannah Halvorsen for the team sprint. They finished fourth in ...

CNSC Juniors at U.S. Nationals

Over the past week, more than 600 racers competed in the 2019 edition of the U.S. Cross Country Nationals at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Fifteen of our CNSC juniors tested themselves against this competitive crew. The field at Nationals is so large because racers are trying to qualify for World Championships, World Cups, Youth Olympics, U18 Nordic Nations trip, World Juniors, Junior Nationals, and NCAA Championships, so talent and speed are in no short supply. Racers were treated to two classic races and two skate races, each a distance competition and a sprint.

The series kicked off with a classic distance race (10k for women and 15k for men) on Thursday, with several hundred competitors in both the men’s and women’s fields. For the girls, Quincy Massey-Bierman was ...
