Craftsbury Biathletes Compete at USBA Rollerski Championships

This past weekend the full GRP biathlon squad, some Craftsbury Juniors, and a few GRP skiers competed at the United States Biathlon Associating (USBA) Rollerski Championships.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday morning with a sprint race. In the Senior Women's event, Susan Dunklee was the top GRP finisher placing second. She was joined on the podium by Kelsey Dickinson in third. Emily Dreissigacker placed 5th with only one standing miss. She was followed by Clare Egan in 7th, Hallie Grossman in 9th, and Kaitlynn Miller in 10th. In the Senior Men's race, Jake Brown finished 8th with Raleigh Goessling close behind in 9th. Akeo Maifield-Carucci placed 11th and Alex Howe finished 14th, despite two broken rollerskis. In the Junior Women's category, Marika Massey-Bierman placed second. Also ...

Results: TNR #12

This evening's race was held at the Center with a strong local turnout as well as a good showing from the rowing campers. In the 5k bike race, Cara Murphy was first across the line in the women's race while Orion Cenkl won the men's race. In the 10k bike event, Megan Jolly was the first female finisher and Nils Koons was first for the men. Audrey Mangan won the women's running race while Michael Gibson won the men's race.

Next week's race will be the final race of the season!! It will be held at the Center with the runners competing on Course B and the bikers on Course A. The race will be closely followed by a pizza party and awards. We're psyched that Julbo Mountain Performance Eyewear will be providing sunglasses to the overall series winners! App Gap 8.11.18 34 X3

App Gap Challenge

Last Saturday, dozens of racers hit the pavement near Waitsfield, VT to power up the App Gap in the annual App Gap Challenge. The race was skiathlon style, with a ski exchange from classic to skate in the middle. Women raced 5k while men raced 7.25k. We had a strong and fast Craftsbury contingent, with GRP’ers and junior skiers putting themselves to the test. 

In the men’s race, Adam Martin was 2nd overall, followed by Finn Sweet in 7th (3rd junion). Trey Jones was 9th, Griffin Wright was 13th, and Orion Cenkl was 60th

Audrey Mangan won the women's race while Ethan Dreissigacker crossed the line first for the men. Next week's race will be back at the Center!

Tomorrow's Tuesday Night Race will take place at Sterling College. Please note, there will only be a running event and the course is very technical!!! Watch your footing and be careful on bridges as they may be slippery. 

Registration and bib pick-up will take place on the library porch starting at 5:15pm. Race start and finish will be on the Common with the race going off at 6pm. As always, you can pre-register here for a chance to win the cookie.

New COC swim programs

We are excited to announce a Masters Swim Practice this August, Wednesdays, 6:30-7:15pm as well as Beginner's Kids' Swim Lessons on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Masters' dates:
August 8 - Basic Freestyle technique and Open Water swim safety
August 15 - Managing heart rate, active recovery, backstroke skills
August 22 - Body Alignment, kicking and gliding for efficiency
August 29 - Alternative Swim Strokes

Masters Swim Practice is available to Adult intermediate to advanced swimmers, age 18 and up. Like all our Fitness classes, practice will cost members $5, non-members $10, or use punch card - all payable at the start of practice.
 
The structure of the practice is as follows:
10 minute dock talk/swim lesson and demo by coaches.
10 minute drills practice
20 minute swim practice/free swim within the ...

Russell Spring: 1926-2018

The Center's founder, Russell M Spring, passed Monday night. He was 92.

Russell joins his wife Janet, who had pre-deceased him by a year and a half. Russell and Janet founded the Center in 1976, after purchasing the Cutler Academy campus, a former boys' school. They cut a Nordic trail network on the land, hosted sculling camps, and added running camps a short time later. Russell and Janet, and the whole Spring family, grew the Center for the next 30+ years, before selling to Dick and Judy who reformed the organization into the non-profit it is today.

We will share the obituary as soon as available, however, we wanted to share the news of his passing. Russell's curiosity, openness to new ideas and embrace of an engaged life lived outdoors formed the much of the bedrock that the current ...

We were back at the Center today, with some ripping fast times with runners on the yellow course and bikers on the blue course.

In the 5k bike event, Clare Wilson was the first female finisher while Orion Cenkl again topped the men's field. In the 10k bike race, Jack Young won for the men while Annie Rowell was the first woman across the line. Birthday girl Audrey Mangan won the women's running race and Ollie Burruss barely held off Adam Martin for the men's win.

Next week's race will be at Sterling College. Registration will be on the Common in front of the Common House. See you there!
