GRP and CNSC Race Fall Rollerski Classic at Jericho, VT

A large group of Green Racing Project and Craftsbury Nordic Ski Club skiers competed this weekend in the Fall Rollerski Classic in Jericho, VT. The race, a 10k classic interval start, was part of NENSA's summer and fall rollerski series, which has just one more race remaining in the season.

Green Racing Project

The GRP had five athletes in the race, three women and two men. The women had the strongest results, with Caitlin Patterson and Ida Sargent going 1-2 overall. Corey Stock placed 8th overall, 3rd in the senior women's category. On the men's side, Adam Martin took 2nd overall to UVM's Bill Harmeyer. Akeo Maifield-Carucci placed 5th in the senior men's category.

Final Autumn Evening Race Results

That's a wrap on our Autumn Evening Race series! Thanks to everyone who came out the past six weeks. For tonight's final hustle through the woods, runners took to the yellow course and bikers rode the white course. Nils Koons took the win in the 5k run in 21:23. In the bike race, Patrick Favreau won the 5k in 24:22 and Matt Moody won the 10k 48:41. Most importantly, all enjoyed homemade donuts and cookies at the finish!

We're two weeks into the three week Vermont Youth Cycling League (VTYCL) Season - a new league designed to promote mountain biking for grades 5-12. Craftsbury is psyched to be part of the league, running the Craftsbury Cycling Development Program - the team that is currently leading the league standings! Let's catch up on the action.

The Sport Trails of the Ascutney Basin, or STAB, played host for week one of the 2018 season, and Craftsbury riders were there to kick the season off right!

Finn Sweet led a Craftsbury sweep of the Varsity Boys race, topping teammate Jack Young and Makail Tipton to top the podium. Amelia Circosta rode away for the win for the 7-8 grade girls, with her brother Leo earning second place behind Parker Welch on the boys' side. ...

Join us Thursday, October 11, at 7:00pm as we host a presentation by Vermont's branch of The Nature Conservancy: "Restoring the American Elm to Vermont’s Forests:  How the return of a species can build resilience in our floodplains." Gus Goodwin (Conservation Coordinator) and Jim Shallow (Director of Strategic Conservation Initiatives) will give the free evening presentation on the American Elm, its demise and efforts to restore the plant and its role in our ecosystem.

Results: Singletrack Shootout 18

This year's Fall Fest Singletrack Shootout was a resounding success! With 116 biathlon competitors spread out over eleven categories, this was the event's biggest year yet. First, a huge thank you to all the volunteers who make this event possible, from veteran helpers to competitors who hung around just a bit too long and got recruited to help! New this year, we had a kids race, giving youngsters an opportunity to try out biathlon while running or biking a shorter distance. These competitors, ages 9-13, ran or biked four loops and shot three times. In the adult races, everyone shot four times and ran or biked five loops. In the expert divisions, racers shot prone twice and standing twice. In the novice divisions, racers shot prone assisted by shooting blocks four times.

Autumn Evening Races

Are you bummed that the summer Tuesday Night Race series is over? So were we, so we decided to offer another option to keep things going into the fall! New this year, we are going to have a more informal fall trail race series, Autumn Evening Races. Still Tuesdays, still run and bike options - updated courses! Series will run September 4-October 9. Free for COC members, $5 for non-members. To accommodate shortening daylight hours, race start at 5:30pm, registration at 5:00pm. Contact Running Director Heidi Caldwell with any questions.
