This past weekend was the start of the biathlon race season with GRP biathletes competing at two events: the NorAm in Canmore, Alberta and the World Cup in Oestersund, Sweden.
The World Cup kicked off with two relay events. In her first ever World Cup race, Emily Dreissigacker competed in the single mixed relay along with USBA teammate Leif Nordgren. Emily shot well in her first leg cleaning prone with no spares and cleaning standing with three spares. Their team placed 19th after being lapped during Leif’s final leg.
In the mixed relay, Susan Dunklee and Clare Egan were joined by USBA teammates Paul Schommer and Sean Doherty. Susan scrambled for the team and cleaned both shooting stages using a total of four spares. She tagged off to Clare who had a strong prone stage cleaning with no spares. The team finished 21st overall with 2 penalty laps and 11 spares.
World Cup racing continues in Oestersund on Wednesday with the women’s individual race.
This past weekend the current domestic GRP contingent kicked off their season with a sprint and a pursuit. Hallie Grossman had a strong race finishing fourth in the women’s field with one prone miss and three standing misses. In the men’s race, Alex Howe placed 13th.
In the pursuit, Hallie maintained her fourth place position in a close race while Alex moved up to 9th place in the men’s race with some strong shooting (only 3 misses). Mike Gibson did not race this weekend due to illness, but he’s on the mend and will be back in action soon!
Domestic biathlon racing will continue in Mount Itasca on December 16th with IBU Trials.
