Last Updated: 03.May.2018
The Green Racing Project ski and biathlon programs are excited to announce the addition of five new athletes for the 2018-2019 season: biathletes Jake Brown, Kelsey Dickinson, and Raleigh Goessling, and skiers Corey Stock and Akeo Mayfield-Carucci.
Jake Brown is originally from Saint Paul, Minnesota where he grew up skiing for Minnehaha High School and the Loppet Nordic Racing team. He went on to ski for both St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, and Northern Michigan University. The highlight of his collegiate career was an All-American finish in the 10k freestyle at 2016 NCAA’s. After graduation, Brown began competing in the sport of biathlon. He raced on the 2017-2018 IBU Cup Team, and is currently a member of the USBA Senior Men’s Development Team. Jake has a BA in Biology and credits towards a MA in Exercise Science, and hopes to get involved in coaching, writing, and building projects at the Outdoor Center.
Kelsey Dickinson is a native of Washington State and spent her early years in Winthrop, WA racing for the Methow Valley Ski Education Foundation. She took post-grad years with Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation and Maine Winter Sports Center before attending college at St. Scholastica. She graduates this spring with a dual major in Philosophy and Natural Sciences. Dickinson qualified for NCAA’s three years while skiing at Scholastica, finishing 25th in the 15k freestyle in 2017. She has also competed many times at World Junior Championships for biathlon and on the IBU Cup. As a returning Craftsbury athlete (she was a part of the U23 Training Program last summer), she hopes to work with the running camps again, and get involved with snow-making and environmental programming.
Raleigh Goessling is also a Minnesota native, growing up in Esko, MN. He raced for Minnesota Biathlon and then the Maine Winter Sports Center as a biathlete before attending University of New Hampshire (UNH). As a junior biathlete, he represented the US at World Junior Championships five times, and also was a member of the Junior European Championship team. While at UNH, Goessling qualified for NCAA’s twice and also had four top 5 finishes in EISA races. His biathlon career highlights include five US Biathlon National Championship titles and a 2nd place in the sprint at 2017 IBU Cup Trials in Mt. Itasca. Goessling majored in Communication at UNH and hopes to get involved in youth programming and community outreach in Craftsbury.
On the ski side, we're welcoming Akeo Maifield-Carucci from Bozeman, Montana. Akeo skied for Bridger Ski Foundation in high school before moving out east to ski for Harvard. Since graduating from Harvard, he has skied for both Bridger Ski Foundation and the Bend Endurance Academy, and finished 2nd in the Lake Placid SuperTour sprint in 2016. Other career highlights include a top 40 finish at U23 Championships in 2016, 12th place America at 2017 US Nationals in the 30k classic, and a 10 hour backcountry ski ascent of South Sister in Bend. Akeo majored in mechanical engineering at Harvard, and hopes to help with energy system optimization in Craftsbury, including the new kitchen’s drain water heat recovery project.
Corey Stock from Lincoln, Massachusetts is the other skier joining us this season. After coming up through the Cambridge Sports Union program, Stock skied for the Big Green at Dartmouth College, graduating with a major in Mathematics. She has represented the US at World Juniors three times and at U23 World Championships twice. She also qualified for two World Cup races in 2012. After graduating from Dartmouth, she skied two years with Bridger Ski Foundation. As a GRP member, Stock hopes to help with BKL coaching in Craftsbury, to work with young women in sport, and to help out with sustainability initiatives.
Please join us in welcoming all five new athletes to the team!
