Two Athletes to Join Summer Collegiate Ski Program at Craftsbury
Last Updated: 20.May.2018
The Outdoor Center is excited to welcome two athletes to our collegiate training program for the summer of 2018: Evelina Sutro from University of Vermont (UVM), and Johanna Taliharm from Montana State University (MSU). Summer collegiate athletes spend several months in Craftsbury training with the Green Racing Project ski and biathlon teams and working at the Outdoor Center, and then continue on with their collegiate teams for the fall and winter season.
Evelina is originally from Carbondale, Colorado, but as a dual Swedish-American citizen, she lived in Mora, Sweden and raced for IFK Mora SK throughout high school. She recently finished her freshman year at UVM, where she is majoring in Health Science. During her first collegiate season, she had several EISA Carnival podiums and made the All-East Team as the sixth ranked female nordic skier in EISA. She’s looking forward to training with a group of strong women in Craftsbury this summer, and also hopes to get involved in coaching, gardening, cooking, and sustainability projects.
Johanna is a native of Tallinn, Estonia. She got her start in biathlon with Sportclub Biathlon in Estonia, and then came to the US to ski for Montana State University. She's currently working on a bachelor's in Business Management at MSU. Johanna splits time between racing on the biathlon World Cup and the NCAA circuit, finding success on both sides. Aside from several NCAA All-American finishes, she also represented Estonia in both the Sochi Olympic Games and the Pyeongchang Games, where she had a personal best result of 22nd. Johanna is a return Craftsbury Summer Collegiate athlete from 2016. She hopes to pick up coaching and gardening duties, and is very excited to be back with the team this summer in Vermont!
