SBTC is now GRP U23

26 Apr 2018 @11:07

To connect our sculling programs more clearly, we have changed the name of our U23 summer developmental program from Small Boat Training Center (or SBTC) to GRP U23.

GRP U23 is designed to provide a summer training opportunity for college-aged athletes with a focus on small boat skill development, and a particular emphasis on sculling. It is one of our core beliefs that the development of small boat skills can only improve an athlete’s long-term development and ability to excel in all boat classes. The program's goal is to help athletes improve both physiologically and technically over the course of the summer, while also aiming to place athletes on the U23 World Championship Team via trials and to race successfully at Canadian Henley, to continue to identify athletes for the ...

Ski-O 2018

14 Mar 2018 @18:15

Over 60 Ski-Orienteering (Ski-O) World Cup athletes and 120 world masters took to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center trails last week for four days of racing. This was by far the most international race that the Center has hosted, and the last time the Ski-O World Cup raced in the U.S. was in 2012 in Truckee, California. With 16 countries' flags flying high above the start and finish hill all week, the ski venue was transformed into an international arena. While walking around the start area, Nordic center, and wax trailers, more foreign languages were heard than English making for a unique week for anyone skiing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.

Skiers started off with the sprint race on Tuesday with Andrey Lamov from Russia winning the men’s race and Tove Alexandersson from Sweden ...

This winter we will screen three documentaries that address what is happening to Earth’s ice, snow and water as more of the polar ice caps melt and the weather patterns become more extreme. Local experts and community leaders facilitate post-film community conversations that provide the tools and understanding for how to create positive change in our community through education, outreach, and action.

Remaining series' dates:

Dining Hall Renovation

15 Feb 2018 @16:51

If you’ve been to the Outdoor Center recently, you likely noticed new construction surrounding the Dining Hall. This construction is associated with our current building project: a renovation and expansion of the Hall. The Dining Hall and its fantastic meals are a focal point to the Craftsbury experience for summer campers, skiers, and residents alike. At the completion of our recent Hilltop Cabins project, it became apparent that a renovation of the Dining Hall would be the next important facilities update.

With frequent consultation from Craftsbury Outdoor Center staff, local architect Patrick Kane has designed a renovation plan for the existing dining hall structure, as well as the addition of a new kitchen and an improved entryway. The new kitchen will feature a larger space with ...

Juniors on the Podium at Second Eastern Cup

16 Jan 2018 @19:58

Amid what NENSA deemed “one of the most dramatic winter events in recent history,” racers from all over the east descended upon the Ripton, Vermont trail network. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Rikert Nordic Center staff and volunteers, the second Eastern Cup of the season went off without a hitch. After Friday’s high 40’s and ample rainfall, Saturday brought cooler temperatures and sleet turning to snow, and then Sunday brought plunging mercury and howling wind making for tough conditions for athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents, race officials, and anyone else involved.

Saturday was a classic sprint day for all, where race organizers and Rikert staff creatively drew together a solid course despite snow loss. On the men’s side, Finn Sweet qualified for the open ...

Emily Dreissigacker Named to Olympic Team

16 Jan 2018 @19:37

Last week, Emily Dreissigacker was named to the US Olympic Team for Biathlon. She is set to compete in Pyeongchang, South Korea in mid February. Emily is a member of the US National B team and trains both in Craftsbury and with the National Team in Lake Placid.

Emily had solid results throughout the rollerski trial season, with a standout victory in a sprint race in October. She was then selected to travel with the National Team to Canmore, Alberta for an early season training camp. From here, she was chosen to go to Europe for the pre-Christmas World Cups in Ostersund, Sweden and Annecy Le Grand Bornand, France. Not having the results needed for Olympic qualification, she was sent down the IBU Cup level after the New Year. Here, she was on fire in what was deemed the final “Olympic ...

Sargent Makes Team Sprint Podium in Dresden World Cup

15 Jan 2018 @13:51

The FIS Cross Country World Cup resumed this past weekend in Dresden, Germany following the completion of the Tour de Ski. GRP skiers Ida Sargent, Caitlin Patterson, and Ben Lustgarten all competed in the double sprint weekend set right in the city of Dresden.

Individual Freestyle Sprint- January 13
It was the first time hosting for Dresden, and while they were able to pull off a solid sprint course amid above freezing temperatures, they weren’t able to lay down all the snow they had planned for the course. This meant the men were clocking sub 2 minute times, and the women just over 2 minutes, by far the shortest course on the World Cup this year. Without any significant climbs, this played out as a flat drag race, with hardly any V1 to be found. In the women’s qualifier, Sargent ...

GRP Ski at US Nationals Day Three and Four

13 Jan 2018 @16:56

Last week, Green Racing Project skiers finished off the last two races at US Cross Country Championships in Anchorage, AK with more strong results. The highlight was Caitlin Patterson's clean sweep of the four events. She won three out of four races outright and placed 2nd overall in the 20k classic mass start, but as first American still took the National Championship. She is the first female skier to sweep all four races at US Nationals since Jessie Diggins did it back in 2012.

20/30k Mass Start Classic

Almost a week ago, on January 7, the skiers toed the line for a mass start classic. The women raced 20k on a 5k modified course that included only one of the original A-climbs from the planned course. Caitlin Patterson took 2nd overall behind CU skier Hedda Bangman (from Sweden), thus ...

GRP Biathletes Compete at the World Cup and the IBU Cup Last Weekend

12 Jan 2018 @14:07

Apologies for the late article… Poor internet and crazy travel days contributed to the delay. But without further adieu, here’s the run-down from last weekend’s European biathlon races.

Susan Dunklee and Clare Egan both competed at the fourth World Cup of the season in Oberhof, Germany. In the sprint race, Susan placed 62nd and Clare 86th. Clare cleaned prone, but both athletes struggled with their standing stage and neither qualified for the following day’s pursuit. Susan and Clare are now competing at World Cup 5 in Rhupholding.

Meanwhile over in Slovakia, Emily Dreissigacker was competing at the IBU Cup in Brezno-Osrblie. The weekend consisted of two sprints. In the first sprint, Emily placed 32nd (first American) with only one miss. In the second race she finished 45th ...

We are sad to announce that Carole Hakstian will be stepping down from the leadership of our Craftsbury Running Camps. Carole joined us two years ago, and has contributed great energy, commitment, vision and detail to the job of coordinating the camps. While she has enjoyed the challenge, she has made the decision to step down in order to pursue full-time advocacy work to promote energy efficiency. We respect her decision, though we are sad to see her go. We wish her many happy adventures

We are starting the process of seeking a new Running Director for Craftsbury, and we are lucky to have some experienced local Running Camp coaches to help during the transition. We will post a Job Description soon.
