East Coast Speed Order

14 Nov 2012 @13:14

CORRECTION - We mis-reported the times of the GRP rowers when posting this. We apologize for this error. You can find corrected times listed below. Thanks.

GRP rowers wrapped up the fall racing season with a successful weekend at the USRowing East Coast Speed Order held in Princeton, NJ. After a week of chilly and snowy rowing at home, Lake Carnegie’s calm waters and balmy temperatures were a welcome change – and a wonderful backdrop for another strong performance for the GRP Rowers.

Saturday started off with a 6k erg piece, results of which determined the start order for Sunday’s 4.25k head race. John Graves brought home the bacon in the Men’s 1x, winning in 16:14.3. Steve Whelpley finished just 0.8 seconds behind Graves in 16.15.1, good for 2nd place, while Charlie Biddle took 11th in ...

EC Volunteer Opportunity

8 Nov 2012 @19:04

We fired up the snow guns this week and this year's Mt. Craftsbury is growing in the lower field! We’ve also had a dusting of natural snow - it’s time to start planning for this winter’s events.

Our first big race will be the opening weekend for NENSA's Eastern Cup series, December 15th and 16th. Saturday will feature a classic sprint; Sunday will be a mass start skate race. We expect a large field of New England skiers, and likely some Canadian competitors as well.

Please consider joining us as a volunteer for one or both days of the weekend. We’ll feed you lunch, provide you morning snacks, and hot drinks as well.

If you’d like to help out, drop us a line at volunteers@craftsbury.com. In your email, it's helpful if you can indicate which day(s) you can work, as well as any preferred ...

Volunteer for Ski for Light's Craftsbury Trip

6 Nov 2012 @15:02

Looking for a new way to share your love of skiing? This winter, the New England Ski for Light group is looking for guides to assist on their trip to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center between January 4th and 7th. Ski for Light Inc. is a non-profit volunteer organization that has been pairing guides with disabled skiers since 1975. This group has allowed for many blind and mobility impaired members to experience the joys of skiing and snowshoeing with the help of volunteer guides.

These kind of trips would not be possible without the help of volunteer guides from the area, and Ski for Light is asking for our help. Training will be provided by the organization to make volunteers the most effective guides possible, although guides should already be experienced cross country skiers. You can ...

Canmore Report

3 Nov 2012 @13:54

GRP skiers have been training on snow in Canmore, Alberta for just over a week today. The team flew to Calgary late last week where they met Jeremy Nellis, who had driven the Sprinter van and trailer out from Craftsbury a few days prior.

The Canmore Nordic Center's Frozen Thunder" handles a similar snow-saving operation to that of Muonio, Finland, where the GRP has started the season for the past two years, albeit with a bit more sunlight and scenery. The jagged peaks of the Canadian Rockies are an impressive backdrop for the 1.5k loop of last year's manmade snow.

Craftsbury's GRP joins Canadian and American National Teams, as well as several elite Canadian clubs on the busy training loop that so far has offered variable conditions from extra blue hard wax skiing earlier in the week ...

Now Accepting '13 SBTC Applications

30 Oct 2012 @18:30

The Craftsbury Small Boat Training Center is a program designed to be a bridge from collegiate rowing to the US National Team, with a focus on smaller boats. It's been fortunate to experience success throughout its short history, placing at least one boat at U23 Worlds every year since its inaugural year. Last year was no exception, as the SBTC sent Maddie Lips as the US representative for the U23 W1x. In addition to the world stage, the SBTC earned four golds at Canadian Henley this past August.

Are you or someone you know looking for a U23 opportunity next summer? We are now accepting applications for the 2013 progam. You can find out more about the SBTC at its section on our website, and when you're ready you can download an application. We'd like to receive 2013 SBTC Applications ...

30 Oct 2012 @10:21

The calm before Sandy made for great racing conditions at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga, NY. GRP rowers enjoyed the hospitality of the Saratoga Rowing Association, whose generosity may have been the key to success during the Saturday races, as GRP won every event they entered.

Phil Henson and Kyle Lafferty started the muggy day off right with a win in the Men’s Open 2-, finishing in 12:12. The pair was followed by Phil Grisdela and Charlie Biddle in second place with a time of 12:45. Next up was the Men’s Open 1x, with Steve Whelpley and Charlie Biddle taking the top two spots in 12:44 and 13:16, respectively. 24 Oct 2012 @13:09

Beautiful weather on the Charles this past weekend made for great racing and solid results for Green Racing Project (GRP) rowers at the 49th Head of the Charles Regatta, confirming Craftsbury as “a good place to get fast,” according to GRP Coach Dan Roock.

Craftsbury Running Program Director and honorary GRPer Lynn Jennings provided Craftsbury’s flagship performance with a victory in the Grand Masters Singles, finishing 11 seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 20:54, a new course record by one second. Jennings gained much of her margin during the final 750 meters of the race—have you heard of the Jennings kick? Apparently it’s a multi-disciplinary skill.

Saturday’s racing continued with a silver medal for Steve Whelpley in the Championship Singles. Starting with bow #7, ...

Craftsbury Checkpoint Challenge Recap

10 Oct 2012 @20:36

Despite rainy, cold, and generally unpleasant weather, Saturday afternoon saw five teams come out to the Outdoor Center to contest the inaugural Craftsbury Checkpoint Challenge (CCC). The CCC, which was hosted by the Craftsbury Green Racing Project skiers, incorporated elements of endurance, orienteering, adventure racing, and wit, and lived up to its tagline “test your muscles, minds, and mettle”!

In times ranging from 1 hour 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes, teams of four raced around the COC campus on foot, stopping at nine different ‘checkpoints’ to attempt some sort of challenge. As promised, challenges ranged from the physical – such as rolling a tractor tire up a hill and sending it back down at targets below – to the mental – such as memorizing a list of US Presidents and ...

10 Oct 2012 @19:27

Over twenty racers competed in the first annual Henley on Hosmer this past weekend, enjoying both the natural beauty of Great Hosmer Pond and the rigors and traditions of Henley-style dual racing.

All the oarsmen and women competed a minimum of two times during the course of the regatta in one of four classes: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and a Masters’ class in both events as well. In addition to the GRP Rowers that hosted the event, the regatta welcomed many notable athletes, including Tim Whitney, 2001 USA Men’s Single sculler, and Olympians Lynn Jennings, Carlie Geer, Judy Geer, and Dick Dreissigacker.

Champions of each boat class were decided through a single elimination bracket reminiscent of the progression at the Royal Henley Regatta. In contrast to its British counterpart, ...

The race was organized by GRP and US Biathlon team member Susan Dunklee, and made possible by the help of our wonderful member volunteers and staff. 2012 Roll, Run, Row Results

5 Oct 2012 @20:39

Craftsbury’s Green Racing Project held this year’s installment of the Roll-Run-Row challenge on October 3rd, bringing together competitors from the skiing and rowing squads as well as the center’s own staff. This event highlights one of the goals of the GRP:  to become the best overall athletes possible, challenging members of both squads to race in disciplines new to them. The course covered a mile-long rollerski up North Craftsbury road, followed by a two-mile run to the boathouse where the event ended with a 1.5 mile row.

The rollerski leg attacked the uphill on North Craftsbury Road. While the uphill was much more physically demanding than other course options, it limited the risk of injury to the more novice rollerskiers in the event. The ski squad had a strong start, with some ...

This nearby event was an opportunity to get race experience before some of the higher profile events to come on the fall calendar such as the Head of the Charles and the USRowing Fall Speed Order. Members of the GRP raced in singles and doubles over the out and back stake race course on the Connecticut River – about 3 miles in total. Strong Showing at Climb to the Castle for GRP Skiers

16 Sep 2012 @10:18

Saturday in Lake Placid, NY, the Craftsbury GRP skiers took part in an annual suffer-fest known as the Climb to the Castle. The 5-mile rollerski race up Whiteface Mountain highlights the USST (US Ski Team) training camp in Placid each year, in which the GRP is currently participating. Other skiers at the camp (and the race) this year include people from SSCV (Vail, CO), SMST2 (Stratton, VT), CXC (Hayward, WI), and a smattering of elite junior racers.

Whiteface made good on its reputation for crummy weather, greeting racers with wind, thick fog, cool temperatures, and a little rain as the race got underway at 8am. The women took off first, with USST member Liz Stephen charging off the front. Our very own Ida Sargent, Hannah Dreissigacker, and Clare Egan immediately formed a chase pack ...

Craftsbury Coach Smashes Kauai Course Record

7 Sep 2012 @14:48

Longtime Craftsbury running coach Brett Ely of Eugene, OR won the 2012 Kauai marathon on September 2. The race kicked off at 6 am and according to Ely, “The hills on the course made Craftsbury feel flat!” With her winning time of 2:46:02, Ely slashed (almost not strong enough of a verb frankly) the previous record by over 15 minutes. Brett finished fourth overall, and beat second-place finisher Devon Crosby-Helms of San Francisco, the recent San Francisco marathon champion, by over 3 minutes.

Ely said, “This was the most challenging marathon course that I have run, but the most rewarding. The community support and aloha along the course was amazing with event volunteers, as well as residents in neighborhoods cheering on the runners.”

Way to rock it in Hawaii, Brett! Congratulations!

Craftsbury Races to the Top

28 Aug 2012 @14:58

The Green Racing Project skiers and rowers headed to Stowe this past Sunday for the 2012 North Face Race To The Top Of VT. It was a productive trip as both men's and women's podiums were covered in green.

Caitlin Patterson led the GRP women, finishing second behind 2011 World Mountain Running Champion Kasie Enman. Patterson topped 3rd placed teammate Ida Sargent by a bit over a minute. The green rush continued with Clare Egan in 5th, Hannah Dreissigacker in 9th, and Emily Dreissigacker in 49th.

The men were led by Gordon Vermeer, mirroring Caitlin's second place. His running form has been really strong all summer, as evidenced during time trials and smaller events like the Black River Beatdown. Vermeer capitalized on that hot streak to post a 35:33.3 to the top of Vermont. Teammate ...

4 Golds! Canadian Henley Weekend Wrap-up

14 Aug 2012 @15:27

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center's Small Boat Training Center concluded its summer racing season at the 130th Royal Canadian Henley Regatta this past Sunday after a long week of racing. To say the GRP and SBTC rowers enjoyed a strong showing would be putting it mildly. Returning across the border, Craftsbury crews had to declare four Canadian Henley Gold medals, two second places, and five thirds out of 16 finals’ appearances over the past week - a new best for the program.

In keeping with the amount of time the crews spend in singles, eight of those finals were in the single. Josh Konieczny headlined the Craftsbury parade of small boats, making his way to the final with a dominant 14 second win in his semi for the U23 M1x. That semi presaged the final result as Josh claimed Craftsbury’s ...

13 Aug 2012 @18:12

Craftsbury biathletes saw some action this past weekend at the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club in Jericho, VT. The Club played host to the 2012 North American Rollerski Biathlon Championships, which also served as selection races for some racing spots this coming winter. Saturday was an individual-start sprint (7.5K and 10K for the women and men, respectively; 2 shooting stages) and Sunday was a pursuit (10K and 12.5K; 4 shooting stages).

Among the racers were GRP members (and USBA national-team members) Susan Dunklee and Hannah Dreissigacker, and frequent GRP training partners Ethan Dreissigacker and Mike Gibson. In the Saturday sprint, Susan and Hannah took 4th and 6th, respectively, despite 5 shooting penalties each. Mike took 10th in the men's race with 5 shooting errors, and Ethan put ...

Days 1 and 2 of Canadian Henley

9 Aug 2012 @17:08

After two full days of racing, Craftsbury's SBTC has made a strong showing at the 130th Royal Canadian Henley in St. Catharine's, Ontario. Racing began with heats on Tuesday, and continued with more heats and semifinal racing on Wednesday.

On the first day of racing, a strong tailwind created sloppy racing conditions for crews throughout the day. Shelley Pearson and Emily Dreissigacker started off the action in the team's first event of the day, both advancing to the semifinals in the Women's Senior Single event. The duo were among 18 athletes who qualified for the semis in a field of 40 competitors.

The SBTC men were also in action on the first day of racing. In the Senior Men's Single, John Graves and Ricky Holak both qualified for Wednesday's semifinals. On the lightweight side, ...

7 Aug 2012 @8:06

This week, the Craftsbury Small Boat Training Center will wrap up its racing season at the 130th Royal Canadian Henley in St. Catharine's, Ontario. 21 Jul 2012 @10:26

The 3rd annual Black River Beatdown took place under beautiful conditions this morning. In the first year the event has had a bike option, Matt Moody was the sole representative of the two-wheeled set. He rode a predominantly singletrack lap course in 1:19:12 for the win.

On the big loop, the runners were led home by Gordon Vermeer in 55:59. Gordon bested his teammates Pat O'Brien and Dylan McGuffin by only 4 and 6 seconds. However, as host athletes none of the top three were eligible to win the Salomon Trail Runners. 4th placed Taylor Washburn will go home with the booty with his 56:20.

For the women, Ida Sargent was seventh overall in 1:01:51 to take the win. GRPer Amy Glen was second, and 15 year old Emma Porrazzo of Greensboro grabbed the last spot on the podium - and the Salomon ...

GRP Rowing: Year-round Elite Training Opportunities

20 Jul 2012 @14:11

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center is excited to announce the launch of a new program for post-collegiate rowers focused on pursuing their full athletic potential and competing at the highest level of the sport. The Green Racing Project is designed primarily to fill the gap that exists after collegiate rowing, and serve as a bridge from collegiate racing to national and international level competition. Most rowers won’t reach their peak performance levels until after their collegiate careers, yet it is difficult to afford basic living expenses while focusing one’s efforts to training as a full time athlete. This program hopes to provide a long-term training situation that also allows an athlete to develop and use other skills, specifically those related to the mission of the Craftsbury ...

SBTC Rower to London

16 Jul 2012 @13:37

With less than two weeks to go to the Olympic Games, the world's attention is turning to London. One Small Boat Training Center (SBTC) Alum will be making the journey:  Peter Graves will be headed to London as part of the US Men's Quad. Since graduating from Trinity College (Hartford, CT), Peter has primarily teamed with his brother Tom in the double, which is how the crew trained and competed with the SBTC in '09 and '10. The two brothers raced the 2009 and '11 World Championships, and won the HOCR M2x the past three consecutive years.

While the brothers' attempt to win the US Olympic M2x slot came up short this spring, Peter was named to the quad along with Alex Osborne, Elliot Hovey, and Wes Piermarini. The quartet will be competing in London, starting July 28.

U23 World Championships Wrap

16 Jul 2012 @11:47

The U23 World Championships drew to a close this weekend in Trakai, Lithuania. Headed by current SBTC athlete and US W1x Maddie Lips, Craftsbury had four crews with Center connections competing over the weekend.

Maddie contested the C final. Lips would face entries from the Czech Republic, Belgium, Kazahkstan and the Ukraine. The other crews got the drop on Maddie, and she faced a long race of chasing in tough conditions. At 500m, she was a second off the rest of the final, but she'd have moved to third by the half way point, where she'd remain behind the Czech and Belgian scullers. Maddie's time of 8:54.37 was indicative of the challenging conditions the competitors faced:  the times were all roughly a minute slower than the rest of the women's singles racing over the week!

GRP on Skis, Even Without Snow

15 Jul 2012 @17:34

There hasn't been snow in Vermont for months, but that hasn't kept the Craftsbury Green Racing Project (GRP) skiers from spending time on skis. They've been putting a grassy uphill to good use, strapping on old skis and doing striding repeats right on the dry ground. The turf is slightly more abrasive than real snow -- leading to a few broken skis -- but otherwise provides a good opportunity to remember how to pilot the full-size skis. Coach Pepa Miloucheva filmed some of the repetitions for technique analysis, and the highlights were turned into a short video

U23 World Champs: Day 3

13 Jul 2012 @18:36

Craftsbury Small Boat Training Center (SBTC) athlete Maddie Lips was back in action on this Friday the 13th in Trakai, Lithuania. Would it be a lucky 13 for the Yale rower?

The first order of business was the repechage. The heavy hitters in the rep would be Poland, France (already beaten by Maddie in her opening heat) and Maddie as she represented the US. Maddie crossed the 500m line in third as Poland and France began their drag race for the top slots. While Maddie would narrow the gap over the remaining 1500m, she unfortunately ran out of course, and would contest the C/D Semifinal.

In the Semis, Maddie faced off against two Eastern European entries - Belarus and Slovenia. While Maddie would go on to win with a nearly 3 second margin, it was far closer than that finish margin may ...

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center is pleased to welcome back renowned naturalist Bernd Heinrich on Monday, July 23, at 8:15 pm. He will speak about his studies of birds in a free event open to all in the Outdoor Center's Dining Hall.

The evening's topic is a discussion of bird eggs and their coloration. Many bird eggs are decorated in an amazing array of colors, in tints and spots, squiggles and blotches. Specialized physiology to 'paint' the egg in some birds would not have evolved without strong selective pressure," explains Dr. Heinrich. "In other words, the colorations promote survival and reproduction. But how?" Bernd's lecture will give listeners an explanation of the beauty of the color variety, beyond the visual, in the functional sense as well.

Tomorrow we kick off our third season of weekly trail races - but we've added twist for this anniversary:  a mountain bike class. Running's not your style? Just want to mix it up with a different approach? Now you can participate in the weekly event on two wheels as well as two feet.

Race entry, series scoring and prizes will be identical to the running version, but the cycling version will start a bit earlier to get cyclists out of the way of the runners. The other difference? Unlike the runners, cyclists will only have two courses to alternate between.

Regardless of how you choose to contest the events, they both offer a low-key way to test your fitness. Registration opens tomorrow at 5:30pm on the Upper Soccer Field by the Yoga tent. Entry is $5 for each race, $30 for the entire ...

Hosmer Point Programming Openings

11 Jun 2012 @13:02

We posted the Rugrats program earlier - the exciting day program option at Hosmer Point (HP) - but that's only the beginning of fun at our sister organization. Spaces remain in both the residential and day camp program options this summer.

Residential camps
at HP are coed experiences for campers ages 9-15. The three overnight camps for 2012 kick off on the first of July and each run for two week sessions. Each camper has the choice of three major areas plus multiple elective opportunities. Majors for 2012 are Waterfront & Sculling, Farm Build, and A.C.E (adventure challenge excellence). Waterfront makes use of the lovely cove on Big Hosmer to scull, sail, paddle, swim and develop greater comfort in the watery world. Farm Build is a truly hands-on experience as campers design and build ...

Just in stock as of last week, our refreshed 5th edition has many of the traditional favorites, some new offerings and healthier takes on old staples. They're on the shelves in the front office retail space. We'll continue to share recipes each month in the blog, but stop by and grab a spiral bound copy for your own. Drop the office a line if you're interested, but not coming our way soon (they do ship).

New Running Programs for 2012

Our first new option is Running & Yoga from June 17-22. Yoga has always played big role in all our camps, but this offering strengthens that connection with daily yoga options. The yoga curriculum for the week will focus on increasing our range of motion, improving balance, rehabilitating injuries and opening tight places. One side effect of the early warmth is that much of the Northern Vermont's trails are ahead of schedule in terms of their readiness for hiking, cycling and other warm-weather activities. While the Center's summer trail network is improving, and definitely ahead of where it generally is at this point on the calendar, we ask that you hold off on mountain biking a little longer. Lots of great results, lots of great stories, lots of coverage, lots and lots of photos - way more depth and breadth of coverage than we can hope to reproduce here. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

Craftsbury Scullers at NSR-1

22 Mar 2012 @7:34

Craftsbury SBTC alumni kicked off the 2012 season competing at the National Selection Regatta 1 at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. While this event was the most important for single scullers, doubles partners Tom and Pete Graves, plus their brother and cousin, lightweight single scullers John Graves and Brian DeRegt used the event as a training race to gauge their fitness as they prepare for upcoming Olympic Trials. The men’s single event featured a deep and strong field of 33 entries. In the time trial Peter Graves led the Craftsbury scullers with an impressive third place finish, only 1.13 seconds behind Warren Anderson’s winning time of 6:40.07. DeRegt also laid down a very fast time and qualified for the semifinals by finishing 5th, only 1.76 seconds out. ...

New American Club Record for Craftsbury Camper

13 Mar 2012 @16:47

Judith Tripp of New York City, a long time Craftsbury runner whose versatility is well known (Judith runs marathons, road miles and competes in triathlon), competed in the mile relay at the venerable Millrose Games track meet in New York City on February 11. Held on the lightning fast Armory track, Judith and her Central Park Track Club teammates ran 6:06 which was good for a new American Club Record. Judith reports, “I raced in my new track spikes which I had spent good time breaking in so they were fast and comfortable. I was a bit worried about what my split would be but I was determined to do my best and it’s surprising what you can do when you really push!”

Congratulations Judith!

GRP Weekend Wrap

12 Mar 2012 @10:02

Susan Dunklee is the real deal.

Last week she posted the top result ever for an American woman in international biathlon compeition with her 5th place in the 15km Individual at Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany. This weekend she followed up by skiing the second leg of a strong relay finish by the American women in 11th. They shot clean using 9 extra rounds and were 4 minutes behind the victorious German squad.

The next day she toed the line as the sole American woman to qualify for the 30 person mass start event, mainly on the basis of her performance in the individual earlier in the week.

And Susan did not disappoint. She mateched the best shooters in the field with only 1 miss over 4 stages to finish in 16th, only 1:30 behind the winner and just 0:30 from 5th place, ...

6 Mar 2012 @14:35

Susan Dunklee moved up almost 20 places in the 10km pursuit to finish 36th at Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding, Germany on Sunday.

With 4 misses in the sprint race and a 53rd place finish, Susan told Fasterskier.com that she felt fortunate to qualify for the pursuit. Well, she certainly made the most of it. She had one fewer miss over four shooting stages, a near season best 85% on the range for Dunklee. She led the American squad with her teammate Sara Studebaker, the only other American woman to qualify for the pursuit, in 41st.

Meanwhile, Ida Sargent again saw World Cup action in Laht Finland. She finished 52nd in the classic sprint event. Ida will race in Drammen, Norway tomorrow in another classic sprint, and will return to Vermont to race at SuperTour Finals and ...

In the final races of the Junior World Biathlon Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland, CNSC's Ethan Dreissigacker and Tara Geraghty Moats improved on their solid results earlier in the week to post exceptional finishes.

Both Ethan and Tara led the American squad in 6km and 10km sprint races respectively. Tara finished 18th with 2 misses on the range, and Ethan had only a single miss to finish in 20th.

“I was pretty excited that I held onto 20th because that was my best result at my first Junior Worlds in Ruhpolding, Germany” Dreissigacker told Fasterskier.com

Bullies go Bio

27 Feb 2012 @18:02

We recently starting getting our off-road diesel from Bourne's Energy in Morrisville - a local supplier of bio-diesel mixes. Bourne's gets their bio from White Mountain Biodiesel in North Haverhill, NH. White Mountain only uses waste vegetable oil that they pick up Vermont and New Hampshire as their feedstock, rather than using virgin oils - an important consideration we feel when sourcing bio-fuels.

We're starting with B5 (5% biodiesel, 95% petro diesel), and will be increasing our biodiesel precentage with each successive refill of our 1000 gallon bulk tank. Long-time biodiesel/veggie oil user (and Craftsbury groomer) Lucas Schulz explains:  "Bio gels at higher temperatures than regular diesel, so that's why we're starting off with B5 and slowing upping it and seeing how the ...

CNSC at Biathlon Junior World Championships

24 Feb 2012 @12:13

For the second year in a room, CNSC boasts two representatives on the US Squad at these Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland. Ethan Dreissigacker makes his final appearance as a 20 year-old junior while Tara Geraghty-Moats is competing in the youth category.

This week saw their first two competitions, the individual and relay events. Both CNSC skiers started in each event. Ethan, along with most of the field, struggled on the range in tricky shooty conditions. He had 7 misses and settled for 53rd place overall in the 15km event. Tara similarly had 8 misses, but as a relative newcomer to biathlon, has showed considerable improvement on the shooting range. She finished in 44th in the 10km.

Egan and Reynolds 2nd in Birkie Sprints

24 Feb 2012 @12:11

On Thursday afternoon Clare Egan and Tim Reynolds did the GRP proud in front of a good crowd along Main Street in Hayward, WI. In the Elite Birkie Sprints, a short 250m out-and-back exhibition event, Reynolds and Egan both advanced to the finals of the men's and women's fields only to be best in the last round of the day.

The event featured a large men's field and a predominantly European one. Reynolds was the only American in the final four of an event that showcased a head to head format that saw the winner advancing to the next round and the loser eliminated. Reynolds was outstretched at the line by an impressively limber Dmitry Ozerski of Russia.

On the women's side, Clare won both of her quarter and semi final heats by solid margins only to fall short to a strong Jennie Bender of ...

Where Snow is still King

21 Feb 2012 @12:38

Check out this article from the Albany (NY) Times Union:  "Where Snow is still King". The author of the piece discovered what Craftsbury skiers, houseguests and members have known all this winter - we've consistently been the place for the most snow and terrain in '11-'12.

Despite a lack of cooperation from Mother Nature, we're still making our stand:  96k of trails open this morning and we blew snow all last night until mid-morning. Hopefully we're earning a nice, big storm from Ullr or whomever is in charge of winter these days! Think snow!
