Craftsbury Cross Country Invitational
Craftsbury Invitational: Saturday September 7, 2019
Welcome to the inaugural Craftsbury Invitational hosted by Craftsbury Academy at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center! Our goal is to host a large, early season meet, inviting teams from Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Canada. We want to provide teams and athletes the opportunity to race teams they will face in Championship season as well as teams they rarely – or never – compete against. Exposure to a diverse, international field will be a fun and competitive way to kick off the cross country season!
The meet: The meet will include High School Varsity girls and boys 5k races; High School Junior Varsity girls and boys 5k races; Middle School boys and girls 2.75k races; and an open Citizens 5k race. Please see below our proposed race schedule.
The venue: Craftsbury Outdoor Center is located at 535 Lost Nation Road, Craftsbury Common, VT. Annually hosting cross country skiing, mountain biking, and running races, the Outdoor Center is well positioned to host a large, well-run cross country invitational. Courses will be run entirely on our network of wide, grassy ski trails. The courses have challenging hills and excellent footing. Start and finish will be on the Upper Field of the Outdoor Center, adjacent to the Activity Center. The Activity Center will be open for team use, as well as the Upper & Lower fields for team tents.
The mission: Most importantly, the mission of Craftsbury Running is to build life-long runners as we help athletes develop positive, confident attitudes towards running. We see this invitational as an opportunity to promote love of sport, competition, and camaraderie across the New England and Canadian running communities. To increase access to this opportunity, we will offer an entry fee more affordable than that typical of large invitational meets.
