Hosmer Community Rowing
Hosmer Community Rowing (CommRow) runs four afternoons a week on Great Hosmer Pond, from mid-May through the end of September. Whether you're an experienced sculler or have never been in a boat before, Craftsbury Outdoor Center staff and Green Racing Project athletes will be on hand to assist you on land and meet you at your level with on-the-water coaching. No matter your age or experience level, we encourage you to come out and try rowing at Craftsbury this summer!
Experienced rowers are welcome to attend CommRow any or all of the four days, Monday-Thursday, starting on May 14th. If you have never been to CommRow before and/or have less than one year of experience, your first CommRow session must be on a Wednesday. The first session for newcomers/beginners will be on Wednesday, May 30th. Beginners may only attend the Wednesday sessions, unless they have the approval of the head coach to begin attending CommRow on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. CommRow season will end in early October, depending on weather and staffing
Returning Rowers Start May 14, 2018
New Rowers Start May 30, 2018
Monday - 4:30-5:30pm (Experienced Rowers Only)
Tuesday - 4:30-5:30pm (Experienced Rowers Only)
Wednesday - 4:30-6:00pm (First time CommRowers, Beginners, Experienced Rowers)
Thursday - 4:30-5:30pm (Experienced Rowers Only)
Please bear in mind these sessions will run concurrently with Craftsbury Sculling Camp's afternoon free row. Thursday afternoon sessions will have a smaller camp presence and a larger CommRow priority, and will incorporate organized workouts/pieces for those participants interested.
In order to participate in CommRow, all participants must:
- Have a current Outdoor Center membership
- Complete a waiver on file (parents will have to do this for those under 18) Pay a program fee - $150/person unlimited, or $50/person for Wednesdays only
Center members can come try their first three sessions FREE. If you elect to continue, please make payment of your fee at the Front Office prior to the next session. As a reminder, membership for Craftsbury and Albany residents is complimentary, but we ask that you complete the paperwork.
Scullers will learn primarily in the single. A participant's first session in the program will feature a flip and recovery experience, so bring a bathing suit and towel on Day One! After instruction, the flip experience gives you the chance to demonstrate you can get back into a boat or swim it to shore in the event of capsize.
Before your first session, we ask that you first stop at the office to complete a waiver if you haven't downloaded and completed one this year. Please contact the Center at 802-586-7767 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
