2017 BKL Summer Daycamps

The BKL camps are always some of the most memorable weeks of the year at Craftsbury, and this year will be no exception. We'll again host two day camps (Monday - Friday, 9am - 3pm) for kids ages 8-13. This first camp is scheduled for June 26th - June 30th; the second camp is scheduled for July 10th - July 14th. Camps are coached by Craftsbury's year-round ski coaching staff, including junior/BKL coaches Anna Schulz, Jake Barton, and Audrey Mangan, masters coach Ollie Burruss, biathlon coach Sam Dougherty, and by members of the Craftsbury Green Racing Project as well. The skiers will work hard and play even harder! There will be lots of fun games, a variety of ski workouts, tons of opportunities to learn or improve skills like roller skiing, shooting with a real biathlon rifle, sculling, and mountain biking, all capped by the traditional adventure race and pizza party at the end of the week. Don't miss it!

Registration will open to Craftsbury ski club program participants ONLY on April 1st at 12:00pm; registration will open to the general public on April 8th at 12:00pm. We request that families choose one camp and do not register for both to provide more opportunities for other kids to take part.

Craftsbury Outdoor Center membership is required for kids to participate in our summer BKL camp. Membership, which is available at the individual or family level, provides a host of benefits, including year-round trail use and access to great opportunities like speakers, naturalist hikes, and cider pressing. Membership is also a prerequisite for registration in our regular summer dryland and winter skiing programs. Sample Day of Craftsbury BKL Camp

9:00 am - Morning Activity - We start the day with a warm-up activity. Usually this is an ice breaker or other fun game to start us moving.
10:00 am - Morning workout - Once warmed up, we move on to more ski related activities like rollerskiing, orienteering, running, hill bounding and more.
12:00 pm - Lunch
12:30 pm - Quiet activity - We learn from videos, play low-key games or other less active pursuits. It's a bit of a break to digest, recover and get ready for the afternoon.
1:00 pm - Afternoon workout - We close the day with another higher energy session. We canoe, swim, try biathlon, mountain bike, or learn to scull.
3:00 pm - Parent pickup - Before you know it, it's time to go home! Rest up because tomorrow will be another full day!

Please read through these FAQs before contacting our coaching staff:

1. What camps will you be offering in summer 2017?

We plan to offer a 5-day, 4 night junior camp; a 3-day, 2 night U14/U16 camp; and two 5-day BKL camps (day camps only, from 9am-3pm).

2. What is the age requirement for BKL camps?

BKL day campers must be 8 years old at the start of camp.

3. Why do some kids get to register early?

Kids who are part of our regular, year-round BKL and junior ski club programs get priority registration. After that, it’s first come, first served.

4. We’re Craftsbury members. Do we get a discount?

No. Craftsbury membership is REQUIRED to participate in any of our camps. It’s basically our equivalent of a year-round trail pass. You can learn how to become a member here.

5. Do we have to do your regular BKL programs to do camps?

No. You just need to have Craftsbury memberships for at least whomever is participating in the camp.

6. Will you email me when camp dates are posted?

If you are one of our regular ski club program participants, you’ll get an email through your program email list. If you are not, you will NOT get an email. The best way to see when camp dates are posted is to keep an eye on our website, member e-news, and social media. Please understand that this isn’t borne out of a desire to keep you guessing, but rather out of necessity. March is a very busy month for our coaching staff and emails easily fall through the cracks. To be fair to everyone, we have to place the burden on you all to keep track.

7. When are you going to offer overnight camps for BKL?

We’re not currently planning to do so.

8. Can I register my kids for both BKL camps?

No. Please choose one. Our camps always fill to capacity and we want to give as many kids as possible the opportunity to experience them.
