How to: Ride Your E-Bike at the Outdoor Center

E-bikes are gaining popularity and can be a great way to cover more terrain or make a non-carbon commute more efficient - to say nothing of just being downright fun. But to protect the user experience on our trails and to respect the requests of our landowners, we’ve put some limitations on e-bikes here at the Outdoor Center. Here’s what you need to know:

What kind of e-bikes can you use?

Only Class 1 e-bikes are permitted on the Outdoor Center’s trails. Class 1 bikes are those with a sub 750 watts (1 horsepower) pedal-assist motor that does not include a throttle. In other words, they have a motor that only engages when the user is pedaling and cuts off once the user reaches 20 mph. All other classes of e-bike, including after-market add-ons, are not permitted on Center trails.

Where can you ride your Class 1 e-bike?

Class 1 e-bikes can be ridden on our singletrack and summer-use ski trails. Not all of our trails are open in the summer so please check out trail closures and conditions before you go. If you’re coming with a dog, please read our dog guidelines.

Finally, please be aware that there are no e-bike charging stations on campus.

Enjoy your e-shred!
