Just after Christmas, CNSC juniors Marika Massey-Bierman and Bjorn Westervelt travelled to Mt. Itasca, in Coleraine, Minnesota for World Junior Championship trials. Marika and Bjorn are both in the youth category, but got the opportunity to compete against older athletes as well as their peers at the trials.

Throughout the series, racers battled wind and frigid temperatures, which led to the cancellation of the third race. In the first sprint race on December 28th, Bjorn placed 7th in the youth men’s race. He missed a total of five targets. In the youth women’s race, Marika placed 6th with four misses. The next day in the second race, also a sprint, Bjorn placed 8th and missed five targets. In the women’s race, Marika was 4th and missed only three targets. At the conclusion of the races, Marika was the 5th ranked Youth Woman and Bjorn was the 7th Youth Man. Congrats to these two!
