2023 U23 Summer Scullers

The summer U23 sculling program is already in full swing! Meet the athletes that you’ve seen or will see around campus. We’ve already sent off a group to trials to qualify for U23 World Championships but will still have a full house of athletes here through the whole summer.

Tori Dettinger

I am from Rochester, Minnesota and I just graduated from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. I majored in psychology. I am excited to learn more about sculling and get some good racing experience this summer!

Braeden Arthur

I am from Saratoga Springs, NY. I attend The George Washington University studying Political Communications and Public Policy.

I am looking forward to competing at the highest level of sculling in the US all summer long. I hope to work with Craftsbury's community rowing program, teaching local residents the basics of rowing and to help split and stack the firewood that allows the center to function smoothly!

Megan Walsh

I am from Grand Rapids, Minnesota and attend the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Finance and minoring in Economics. I’m looking forward to hopefully qualifying for the U23 World Championships and becoming a better sculler this summer. I’ve been contributing to the CommRow program and I’m excited to coach more athletes this summer!

Gavin Crouch

I'm from Shrewsbury, MA, I am currently attending Marist College working on my bachelors degree in Marketing. I am looking forward to growing as an athlete and a rower, while also contributing to the Craftsbury community and promoting their message of sustainability.

Natalie Hoefer

I'm from Midland, Michigan. I'm a rising junior at the University of Notre Dame studying Premed. I'm looking forward to hopefully going to Worlds and training in Craftsbury alongside my teammates. I am excited to help with Comm Row this summer as well.

Catie Castle

My hometown is Vero Beach, Florida. I am currently a 5th year at The University of Rhode Island receiving a double major in sports media and communications as well as public relations. I am looking forward to continuing to grow as an athlete under the amazing coaching staff with GRP, as well as creating great memories with my fellow teammates at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center (and hopefully abroad racing internationally)! I am thrilled to assist in coaching and supporting ComRow in the upcoming weeks!

Jesse Ryno

Originally from Alpine, NJ, I’m majoring in Russian and minoring in Cognitive Science at Georgetown University. I wasn’t introduced to rowing until late my senior year of high school, and — because of the pandemic — I was never able to compete until my sophomore year of college. Since, I have only had the opportunity to race eights and the coxed four. With the Green Racing Project this summer I’m ready to finally line up in some small boats and see what can be accomplished.

Nick Gaensler

I attend Brown University and am originally from San Francisco. I’m excited to delve into learning about the technical aspects of the stroke as well as my physiology.

Caleb Nollenberger

I’m majoring in Forestry and Plant Breeding at the University of Minnesota. Excited to participate in the production and consumption of locally sourced sustainably raised food.

Ethan Penny

I’m from Reidsville, NC, attending High Point University as an exercise science and music double major. I am looking forward to training with high level athletes, improving my sculling skills in the single and double, and racing. I will be doing work hours and I’m looking forward to help coaching younger rowers as well as helping out with camp projects.

Reilly Katz

Hailing from Port Washington, NY, I attend the University of Virginia as a global public health major. I am excited to improve my skills in order to not only make the GRP racing team faster but also to return to my collegiate team and make an impact on our teams collective speed. I am looking forward to working with the CommRow team and hopefully being able to make a difference in their community’s rowing experience!

Jackson Fuller

Majoring in Chemistry at the United States Naval Academy, I’m originally from Winter Park, FL. I am super thankful for this opportunity and excited for training and racing with the Green Racing Project. I hope to work outdoors and get in some Rocky IV style training while helping out at the outdoors center.

Mason Banks

I attend the Naval Academy as a quantitative economics major from Westport Connecticut. I’m excited to meet and work with the whole team. I would love to help out with anything involving the outdoors. I would also be excited to work with other rowers to help them find their full potential.

Annie Herring

I am from Dallas, Texas and attend Brown University. I have a double concentration in Applied Math-Economics and Computer Science. At Craftsbury, I am excited to explore the Green Mountains and look forward to helping facilitate community rowing!

Cillian Mullen

From Batavia, IL, I row for UVA as an English and global studies (environment and sustainability) major. I look forward to rowing and racing in new places with people to learn and gain perspective from. I also look forward to working in the garden and helping with the invasive plants while in Craftsbury!

Grace Hammis

I’m from Saginaw, Michigan and go to the University of Michigan. I intend on majoring in Public Health and attending dental school after college. I am so excited for this summer! I'm looking forward to challenging myself, furthering my knowledge in rowing, and learning more about my impact on the environment and what I can do to help. I am grateful to have the opportunity to also work with the community at Craftsbury through work hours. I can't wait to contribute and get involved!

Meena Baher

I am from Mountain View, California and just finished my first year rowing for Harvard.
