Training week of 10/26

[Back to the Club Updates page]

EVERYONE:

  • Attendance form! Please fill this out weekly to help us plan.

  • Training plan: still here.

  • Winter program registration: is open via your membership portal. Check out our program info here for all the details. If you have landed on a waitlist, PLEASE don’t panic, and give it some time before following up with coaches. If you’re already on a waitlist, we will likely get you slotted in to the programs, but it takes a bit of logistic-ing and that just takes some time. We had about 200 signups within the first 10 minutes of registration and are so pumped by all the enthusiasm!

  • Jakroo Uniform Purchase Window - closes THIS WEEK. We are once again working with Jakroo on team jackets & uniforms. You buy directly from Jakroo on their online storefront. We’ve set up a bulk order window that ends Oct. 29, and should ship by Nov. 20 — in time to have them for Thanksgiving. We have youth (BKL) sizes this year in addition to adult sizes! The more we order as a club, the lower the per-item prices get. The storefront will switch to “on-demand” after Oct. 29, so it is possible to buy uniforms later in the season, but this is your chance to get in on lower bulk pricing. Their ship times are likely to only get longer later in the season.

JUNIORS:

  • Sunday, 11/1 is the official start of winter training!

  • Equipment: we actually made a separate blog post for this. It’s here. PLEASE check in with coaches ASAP about your gear needs for the season—it will help you get ahead of the scramble.

  • Mandatory fall team meeting: will be on Sunday, November 8th, in the late morning (after practice). This is when we’ll get into some of the nitty gritty details about winter.

  • OMG Eastern Cups. These are a ways off still but will come up fast. We will likely have more people wanting to do team travel than we have capacity for (we can typically take 20-22). Priority will be given to those who have shown the most commitment to training this summer and fall! More details to come, but here are our tentative lodging plans to this point for any families who want to be nearby:

    • EC #1 @ Holderness: Frontenac Lodge (where we stayed last year) in Plymouth; no space for additional people but close to other lodging options

    • EC #2 @ Quarry Rd: Best Western Waterville (usual hotel; has competitive rates and lots of rooms; plenty of room for families to stay there too)

    • EC #3 @ Lake Placid: 2 houses on Hurricane Mtn Rd in Keene (no room for additional people beyond 20ish athletes)

    • EC #4 @ Oak Hill: Pierce’s Inn (where we stayed last year) in Etna; no space for additional people.

U14s:

  • Equipment: most of you will likely continue to rent equipment through the club as U14s, and that’s great. Looking ahead, though, it’s good to have an idea in the shifts around equipment expectations as you get into high school. We made a separate blog post about equipment, and though it largely focuses on juniors, it’s worth taking a look. Find it here.

BKL:

  • Right now our last planned day is Thursday, Oct. 29th, though that may change if the weather gets gnarly. We are DONE with rollerskiing for the fall!

MASTERS/ADULTS:

  • Business as usual for y’all this week, except those who are testing—make sure you’re checking Slack to stay ahead of Pepa’s plans.

BIATHLETES:

  • Schedule notes:

    • This is the last week of BKL biathlon for the fall. See you in the winter!

  • Race Opportunities:

    • CanAm Eastern Cups (formerly know as Eastern Regional Cups) schedule here. We’ll likely send coaches to #1, #2 & #4. Suitable for most U14/Jrs. You’ll need your own lodging and transportation.

    • Wisconsin Jr Nationals Dec 27-31 roster has been finalized.

  • Weekly Dryfire ideas

    • 3-4 days per week if you own your own rifle at home.

    • Prone 3x2 minutes with break between each.

      • Focus on trigger. Use a 3 breath cadence:

        • First breath simply trace the vertical line from 6 o’clock onto target and watch it stop at target height

        • Second breath “almost shoot”- take up trigger pressure, pause & fine aim but don’t actually take shot

        • Third breath- add in the shot

Wylie Hill on a lovely October day.
