Training week of 10/13

EVERYONE:

  • The training plan is here and below. Don’t forget to fill out the attendance form.

  • Bike racing this weeked; rollerloop closures: we’re hosting a big bike race this weekend. More info here. Sunday the rollerloop is closed until races are cleaned up; Saturday it will likely be impacted by fencing, etc. Reach out to junior coaches with questions.

  • Winter program waitlists: thanks in advance for your patience here. We’re carrying quite a few kids on the waitlists for winter programs, and while we’d love to accommodate everyone, we also need to maintain coach:athlete ratios that will keep our programs fun, productive, and safe.

  • Rollerloop safety: this time of year we blow off the rollerski loop as often as we can, but sometimes it’s very leafy even just a couple hours later. Remember to check for slippery leaves if skiing on your own outside of practice times.

  • Club uniforms and jackets: we’re working on a redesign this year and switching up our supplier. “Old” uniforms will be on super sale starting this week! We’ll nudge y’all in Slack when they’re organized ready to move along.

  • Do you like slingin’ burgers & dogs? And do you like raising money for the junior scholarship fund? THIS Sunday, October 19, we are putting together an all-star grilling crew to sell burgers and hot dogs to attendees of our VTYC mountain bike XC race. Feed people and raise money for kids’ ski racing at the same time! We still need one person for each shift, either 11:00am-12:30pm or 12:30pm-2pm. If interested, reach out to jrskiing@craftsbury.com.

  • Tickets to World Cup Finals are now on sale: head here. Juniors, if you’re traveling with the team, you will still need to buy your own tickets.

JUNIORS:

  • Change of plans for the weekend: the government shutdown has closed the range in Jericho, so the rollerski race is up in the air and we’re not abundantly optimistic it will happen. So we will be offering a practice a bit earlier on Sunday, to work around the bike race kerfuffling. Then you can stay and volunteer!

  • Pop-Up Yard Sale: we have a small number of junior and parent-sized skis to unload in lieu of the ski swap this year. This will be ongoing, so pole your head in the clubhouse before/after practice to scope it out.

  • “Team night” equipment purchasing: look for a link coming at you soon in Slack. Orders will be due Nov. 1 this year.

  • Licensing: check out our distillation of license needs here. Read past blogs for more detail.

  • Looking ahead at some dates:

    • No organized practice on Sun 10/26.

    • Sunday, Nov. 3rd, is when we officially start the fall schedule.

    • A reminder about dates looking ahead: toggle to the “25-26 year” tab at the bottom of the training plan to get a better sense of what’s ahead this winter.

U14s:

BKL:

  • We are done with BKL for the fall! See you in December.

BIATHLETES:

  • Winter race opportunities- read over for what we know so far.

  • U17+ planning to race Junior Nationals in Lake Placid in December, add your name here. Still not sure? Chat with coaching staff.

ADULTS/MASTERS:

  • Sunday: stay tuned. You’re likely heading off-campus, given the bike race mayhem, but your GRP coaches have not yet decided exactly which hill is the best and biggest…
