Training week of 11/24
EVERYONE:
The training plan is here and below. Please fill out the attendance form weekly!
Snow updates: this time of year, it’s always hard to guess what the weather will bring. Stay informed about snow conditions here by heading to our website and clicking “Conditions & more” and/or snowflake in the upper right.
Rental equipment: we’d like to wrap up season-long rental distribution sooner rather than later. PLEASE hop on rentals if you haven’t yet done so.
JUNIORS:
Thanksgiving week = weird schedule. We want to maximize time on snow with you! And also work around some other constraints. Be sure to read the training plan carefully. For the days when we have 2 sessions (always optional), be sure to pack yourself a lunch, plenty of dry clothes, etc.
BRING YOUR ROLLERSKI RENTAL GEAR BACK now please. Good grief. Cuz we clearly are not rollerskiing anymore.
You need wax boxes. With wax in them. Here’s a doc about that.
Time trial on Sunday: more info to come, including suggestions about who might benefit from racing. It’s usually us, MNC, a few other clubs, and a bunch of colleges.
Eastern Cups: all juniors who are considering traveling to Eastern Cups should fill out this form as soon as possible, as well as you can at this point.
High School x Club skiing: always happy to talk more about this. But a few points:
When you are coming to COC with your high school team, you need to be a part of that team. That means—whether it’s a race or practice—you operate out of the bus/wherever your team is, you wax with your team, etc. Of course you can pop in to the clubhouse if you need something. But be aware of how it may feel to your non-CSC school teammates when you disappear to a space that’s not theirs.
High school skiing is not just an avenue to access high school races. It’s a team sport. Treat it as such.
If you are arriving here with your HS team/some segment thereof but are planning on some on-snow time with CSC, that plan needs to be made with your HS coach and clearly communicated ahead of time.
YOU should be proactive communicators, since this sport is your endeavor and you also have access to the plans from both us and your HS coaches. You are welcome to share the CSC training plan, etc., with your HS coaches—we have no secrets.
Training/practice skis: if you’re a junior, you need some. See past blogs.
Running shoes: always have them.
Licensing: holy moly you better have what you need at this point. Read old blogs for more info.
Looking ahead at some dates:
Thanksgiving Time Trial: we typically do a TT with the teams who are at the Center over Thanksgiving. Usually the Sunday after. Stay tuned.
In less than ONE MONTH (Dec 13-14) we’ve got the Season Openers at Rikert. These have historically been at the Center, but in light of a pile of early season biathlon races, we asked Rikert to take them on and they kindly agreed. More info here. Coaches will go down and wax skis for this, but we will not be doing team travel/overnight/food/etc. We may be able to offer a van—TBD.
Reminder: toggle to the “25-26 year” tab at the bottom of the training plan to get a better sense of what’s ahead this winter.
U14s:
Thanksgiving week = weird schedule. We want to maximize time on snow with you! And also work around some other constraints. Be sure to read the training plan carefully. Note that on Weds/Fri, the second sessions are for juniors only.
BRING YOUR ROLLERSKI RENTAL GEAR BACK now please. Good grief. Cuz we clearly are not rollerskiing anymore
You need wax boxes. With wax in them. Here’s a doc about that.
Always have running shoes with you.
BKL:
Thanks to those who joined our kickoff meeting/info session! Notes here.
BKL practices start on Tuesday, December 9th.
BIATHLETES:
Bring every practice: gloves, poles and a dry change of clothes & warm layers to put on after skiing.
Winter race opportunities- read over for what we know so far. There’s a novice-friendly race on Jan 10!
During the month of November only, we will structure JR/U14 training a little differently:
Sundays and Wednesdays are practices for the full group. Your mode will probably be whatever the mode was for ski practice.
Tuesdays we will reserve for 1-on-1 shooting sessions. Anyone who is a U17 or U19 planning to race at Junior Nationals can sign up for a 1-on-1 shooting session here.
December goes back to normal with the group split between Tuesday and Wednesday.
ADULTS/MASTERS:
Thanks for a great summer and fall! We’ll see you again on December 4th. Feel free to use Slack to self-organize workouts in the meantime.
