Join Vermont Center for Ecostudies (VCE) loon biologists Eric Hanson and Eloise Girard for an engaging look into the social lives of Vermont’s Common Loons. They’ll explore courtship and territorial behaviors, chick development, and respectful observation practices for loon families.
They'’ll also introduce LoonWeb, VCE’s new digital monitoring platform which completed a successful pilot year in 2025 and is now preparing for a broader public launch. Through LoonSurvey, community members can help monitor Vermont’s loons by submitting sightings and observations that directly support loon conservation and research statewide.
During this hands-on training, Eric and Eloise will walk through LoonWeb step-by-step so you can confidently use the platform in the field and make your observations part of Vermont’s long-term conservation record.
This workshop is open to everyone—no prior experience necessary - but VCE asks that you register. Whether you’re a longtime loon watcher or simply curious to learn more, we’d love to have you join us in helping keep Vermont’s loons wild and thriving.
