2026 Mud n' Ice results
Would love to say it was always this sunny on race day, but that would be a lie. Kelsey Dickinson heads out on the bike leg.
The 2026 Mud n'Ice quadrathlon escaped the forecast rain - but the rest of the weather was quite seasonally cool and blustery. How would the racers fare in the triathlon after the paddle leg was dropped at the last second due to extenuating circumstances?
Alex Howe and Nils Koons in the lead on lap 1 of the ski leg.
The race starts on one of the last stretches of groomed snow in the kingdom: 4 laps of Craftsbury's 2k manmade loop. Ex GRP skiers and in-laws Alex Howe and Nils Koons took to the front and started pulling a bit of a gap. Howes took leg bragging rights over Koons, with Mansfield Nordic's Charlie Cobb grabbing 3rd behind the duo, just ahead of perennial mud n' iceman Eli Enman of Sleepy Hollow/NWVE/Rossignol. More former GRPers on the women's side led the women off the snow, with Kelsey Dickinson leading Hallie Grossman and Hannah Dreissigacker off the snow and into the transition.
Issac Kristich of Moppy’s Marauders’ heads out on his run leg and his conquest of Nils Koons.
The runners took their chance to shine on a new course of just under 4 miles, with substantial less downhill versus the traditional run course. Solo competitor Koons held the lead ahead of 3-5 person team Moppy's Marauders' Issac Kristich and Red Extra Wet's Maxwell Olmstead, with 2 person outfit Barkeater Outdoor Nordic Endurance Racin's Philip Matthews lurking not far behind. Early women's leaders Grossman and Dickinson swapped leads, but remained 1-2 as they hustled to get on their bikes, about 0:43 ahead of Evelyn Needham.
Timothy Ziegler smoked the bike leg to take the overall win for Barkeater Outdoor.
The bike leg gained additional significance for 2026, as the longest leg afforded competitors the greatest opportunity to gain or lose time over its 9ish miles. The bike course changed the least in the 2026 shuffle, as only the first mile and a bit was dropped after the re-routes. Timothy Ziegler of Barkeater Outdoor left the transition zone 1:30 down on race leader Koons and emerged with a nearly 2:00 minute victory after posting the 3rd fast bike leg. Koons stayed ahead of Eli Enman, placing 2nd overall and winning the solo male category. Team Siboire rode the 2nd fastest bike leg of the day posted by Pierre-Olivier Boily to rocket from 23rd after the run leg to 5th overall and claim the win for the 3-5 person team category. The solo women's field saw a wholesale shuffle as Anna Ramsey, Evelyn Needham and Rachel Slimovitch used the 1st, 4th and 2nd fastest bike legs to reel in women's podium across the blustery course.
Thanks so much to everyone who came out, our volunteers and the visionary himself, Keith Woodward!
